Fed wasn’t even that awful at USO just got caught out by Berdych. Tough to say how he would do vs 2018 Nole. If we’re talking 2011 Fed this would be an easy prediction.
2011 Fed would have to be paired up with 2017 Nole, age wise. Not much of a contest there!

I love how Australian open 2005 is winning this poll because it shows that federer fans can not and will not vote on a poll that involves nadal beating federer lol.

It’s either Australian open 2009 or Wimbledon 2008 end the tread now because it’s pointless

Well, to be fair, back in 2012, we had no idea that the young players would suck this much.

Rafa and Djoker are not playing at a higher level than 2012 Fed did. The young players just suck.

Nadal played better at RG and Djokovic played better at the USO. Federer played better at both AO and Wimbledon, though. The difference is that Federer was stopped by peak Nadal at AO (and even had he played at 150% like RG 11 semi and edged Rafa, prime Djokovic would be waiting - too tough a task), while Djokovic took Wimbledon after an ATG match against Nadal, but strictly by level of play Fedal AO 12 semi was better (not greater, obviously). 2012 Federer's tennis could/would have won him both AO and Wimbledon this year, with RG and USO still going to Nadal and Djokovic respectively, so Wimbledon is the difference. You can say the 2018 semi aka real final was greater because of the epicness, but any instance of prime Federer was surely better on grass.

Or maybe, you know, he actually played better tennis in the 2005 loss and has nothing to do with Nadal?

Its deeper than that. They are more concerned with the weak era suggestions as such suggestions undermine Federer a lot because most of his GS came during that era. So Fed fans will push anything that would give an impression that weak era was not a weak era in fact. The reason behind choosing Safin match is because it suggets 1. Safin needs to be projected as a player s great that he would beat even peak power playing at his weak. Bigging up of Safin, Roddick, Hewiytt is essential to deny weak era suggestions.
2. Federer never played at the same level after 2007 so any losses after 2007 can't be an option here as after 2007 Federer was declined and didn't play any good to make this list. If they had chosen any match like 08/09/10/11 or later it would have been an acceptance that Federer played good even after 07 and such acceptance would lend credence to weak era theories.

Wimbledon 2008 is nowhere near AO 2005 or Rome 2006. Federer fought well but the first two sets were poor from him. Too tentative, no aggression, weak 2nd serve returns.

Actually at the moment Rome 06 is winning.

It seems you're the one thats more concerned about the weak era suggestions, you cling to it like its you're lost child. As a federer fan the whole weak era debate didn't even enter my mind when I saw the poll. If you have any tennis intelligence and actually watch the match between Roger and Safin you would see that was Roger at his shotmaking best, in fact that match is probably the pinnacle of shotmaking itself. For me its that at number 1 because that was his peak in terms of his movement and agility as well as his shotmaking. I would put Rome 06' at number 2 as Rogers footwork and nimbleness wasn't quite as sharp in that match.
