I hold my racquet with the butt cap in my palm. Large butt caps (like the ones that come on POGs) make this very uncomfortable. So, personally, I prefer them small. Yonex are the best, but I've modified them to make them, even, smaller. I know this raises the risk of the racquet flying out of a very sweaty hand (which already happened to me once... but only once, so...). Anyway, what do you people like?

Could you provide examples of other big and small butt caps so that we can have a point of reference.

Well, I'm not refering only to how they come from the racquet companies. Some players, pros and non-pros, modify butt caps to suit their tastes. Some make them smaller, like me. Some build them up. I just wanted to find out what the majority of people liked.

Well, I hold it so the bottom of the hand (if it helps, the karate-chopping part of your hand that's supposed to hit) rests on the side of the butt-cap. So it's fairly low down, but it perfectly supports my hand. Other people hold their racquets all the way on the grip. It's just preference, and the buttcap preference reflects that.

I have had a similiar sort of question ever since I switched from volkl to prince.

Volkl butt caps are actually made os some type of rubber so they are quite plush. So you can hold the racket as low as you want without any discomfort.

My Wilson Butt cap however, jut sout slightly at the edge, and this is getting uncomfortable over long periods of hitting.

One issue I have with the volkl soft rubber butt caps is that they are too flexible. Once in a while, the grip moves around too much with the butt cap and becomes loose and/or separates on the first wrap or two.

Hummm... and can you put a Volkl butt cap on a Yonex?

I have to remove, re-staple and re-tape my soft Volkl caps every month because of this. I've already had a few instances when the cap completely separated from the handle, and the racquet was left dangling by the grip (thank God it didn't fly off!). Glad I'm not the only one having issues with the soft caps; I wish Volkl would make hard butt caps available.

i just got some volkls in the other day and other than the crazy rectangular shape they are pretty sweet, love the rubber.

for the jutting out part, try wrapping your overgrip (if you use one) slightly over the end of the buttcap, this will cover any scratches or rough edges on your hard cap. I used to get blisters and sore hands from the scratched parts on my caps.

If you don't use an overgrip I don't know what to say.
