Verdasco I would say, seeing him close up at Wimbledon was amazing. He just launches into it without a second thought, it was like a gun going off on some of the bigger ones that he went for.

I think verdasco goes too much for broke on his forehand. him and gonzo have big ones, but they take such huge backswings and launch themselves somuch into the shot its a little ridiculous how much effort they ahve to put into to each shot. id say federer for power and accurace, blake for power, and nadal for spinniness and percentage. but of all those guys if i had to pick one id say federer for this generation.

Yup, I think that's exactly it, isn't it?

Yes guys like Gonzo and Verdasco can pulverize the ball, but it is NOT like other players can't generate racket head speed too. You have to make a choice of what balance you want to have of going for broke all the time or like a Nadal. Nadal can generate as much power as anyone when he wants to, his racket head speed you can't argue with. The difference is that he isn't brain dead either AND unlike someone Gonzo also has a critical element of mental toughness and concentration/focus that Gonzo just isn't capable of. In a way, just saying hey, I'm going to go for broke on every shot and wow the fans is kind of a cop-out. It means you don't have faith in your ability to work a point and give your opponent a chance to miss BEFORE going for broke yourself. Thus guys who just go for it and go for it and only know to go for it, guys like Gonzo, Verdasco, and Philipoussis and his many gloried double faults that hit the back fence at 130mph break point down at 5-6...these guys might have a good result here or there when they get hot, but the problem is that they can't actually win a slam, an entire TWO-WEEK, slam that way. Sooner or later, they'll get in a tight match and choke by going for too much and just gifting their opponent a critical point, momentum shift point, or game.
