what is messing around? I hope you didn't disrespect your opponent just because you can hit the a tennis ball better.. if you have that kind of attitude, you can kiss your tennis future good bye...

I wasn't disrespecting my opponent in any way. the kid wasn't very good and he was yelling curse words and throwing his racket. if anything he was disrespecting me. by messing around i mean when deiton came next to me i was already up 6-1 3-0 and i wasn't playing my best. i was merely working on different aspects like serving and volleying on the majority of points and going for more just to work on it. by messing arouns i meant not playing my normal game

OK good luck today, looks like you have a tough 2 rounds.Deit's draw is easier.. too bad Deit could draw Nikko, that would have been interesting...

thanks. i won the first one 6-2 6-0 and the second one 6-3 2-6 6-2. playing very well. deiton fell in his first match 4 and 6 to a solid guy. plenty of controversy in that match over calls, score and god knows what else. overall i thought deit played very solid the other guy was better then his ranking. hes a kid from Weill in Ojai

It was a bad call on a key point but the kid in no way was the kid cheating just a bad call, it was in the shadow and Deit let it get to him then the ref told deit he wasn't allowed to pump his fist towards us his parents ,but over all the other boy played steady and deserve the win!

deit looked real tight in the breaker in the second. i thought he had him at 6-5 but he kinda tightened up a little. the kid he played was having an unusually good day. i thought deit played pretty well. ur thoughts? the one thing deit doesnt have that will come as he gets older is a killer serve. the thing i noticed about the guy deit was playing was that he could win free points when he needed off his first serve. just a thought. deit will develop a bigger serve as he gets older though. other then that he has all the shots

congrats on making it to the main draw... a few eyebrow raised by who made it and who didn't... Nikko who's been on a real tear in the 14s,didn't make it.. and Deit also... good win over CB

Deit does have a pretty nice serve (big) he tends to always aim for placement rather then power during tight matches ,were trying to get him to cut loose a little more i think it will take some time (hes 12). He really let the call get to him yesterday which suprized me but in the end i saw how big he can play and realized he can dominate the age division if he wants and he so young even though he's my son i stand sometime amazed at what he can do .As for the other boy he played solid and like i said deserved the win!!

hey Brad ,are you saying that Deit can dominate the 16s boys in So Cal at age 12?

well from what i saw his serve is placed well but tht doesnt do it when u play real good 16 year olds. u need power and placement. the only reason i won yesterday was my serve was huge. high %, high mph, good placement. 16s and 18s is all about holding serve. and i really think as deit grows he'll get stronger and be able to bang it. i wouldnt worry about. just a thought i had. he;s incredible for 12.

weve been working in practice and he can get up to about 85-90 but in the matches depending on the returner he tends to go right to placing it 55-65 ,But you are right it will not work at the higher age groups they will get a read on it and its over!! Im gonna have him read your words it might provoke him Thanx

SoCalDominates: well part of this is true but I think you need to go around the block a few more times.. when you start playing excellent returners, unless you can ace or get winners serves with no returns all the time, I can guarantee you,you won't win without a solid groundstroke game or dominate with a volley game .. great returners will eventually get used to your serves and if you don't have enough game to back it up,you cannot win... if you ever get a chance to play guys like Spinosa ,Nguyen, Mkrtchian, or Wang in singles, you'll know what I'm talking about.. you can have a good serving day but after a while they'll come back and get you if you cannot match up with them on the other parts of the game...
I've watched Clay Thompson serve great and still lose a match because of a few points turn around where he cannot stay with the rallies ,and Clay's serve is almost always on...

I agree. ur making my point for me though. im not saying you only have to have a serve. u have to have good groundstrokes too. But you have to have a good serve too. thats what im saying. all the guys u mentioned: Mkrtchian has a huge serve, Wang good serve very well placed and hard, spinosa (played him over a year ago) huge serve, Nguyen i havent seen enough. the point is you have to have a big serve as a weapon and good grounstrokes, volleys, etc. If you dont have a semi big serve its tough to win at a high level

DOMINATING THE 16'S AGE DIVISION WOULD MEAN RELATIVELY EFFORTLESSLY BEATING GUYS LIKE JACK SOCK, DENIS KUDLA, MITCHEL FRANK, RAYMOND SARMIENTO JUST TO NAME A FEW.

aRE U SERIOUSLY MAKING THIS CLAIM IN YOUR RIGHT MIND? I DO LIKE DEIT'S GAME AND THINK HE IS VERY TALENTED, BUT SOME STATEMENTS THAT YOU MAKE FORCE ME TO QUESTION THE SANITY OF THE AUTHOR.

LET'S NOT GET CARRIED AWAY HERE, DEIT IS GOOD FOR A 13 YEAR OLD, BUT TO CLAIM THE DOMINANCE OF AN AGE GROUP AFTER COUPLE OF "GLORIOUS" LOCAL LEVEL WINS IN THE SECTION.....COME NOW, BRAD. LET'S NOT START FLYING BEFORE WE LEARN TO CRAWL. YOU MAY DO SOME DAMAGE TO DEIT'S IMAGE WITH YOUR OUTLANDISH STATEMENTS. DO YOUR OWN KID A FAVOR, DO NOT TURN INTO RICHARD WILLIAMS, LET THE KID DEVELOP AND BE.

agreed. saying a 12 year old will be dominating the 16s is a little insane

ON A LIGHTER NOTE, DID YOU ENTER DEITON INTO EASTER BOWL OR INTERNATIONAL SPRINGS. THOSE ARE TWO GOOD TOURNAMENTS FOR YOUR SON TO PLAY, IF HE GETS A WILD CARD INTO THE DRAW.

I'm playin ITF springs didnt see deits name on the entry list. and can a 12 year old really get a wild card into easter bowl 16s?

first off he's 12 not 13 and the statements are not outlandish just within our plan , as for the guys you named i believed they are all playing the 18's and what i was talking about is the So Cal division, will just have to see what happens wont we!

So CAL Deiton played horrible this weekend i do admit and the other boy played great and watching deiton dictate so many of the point the way he does and on other time putting the ball right through the kid does not seem im insane i just see the possibilities of what he can do. remember hes 12 and i dont see him getting pushed around out there .

he is 13 in couple of weeks, for all intentive purposes, he is 13. That is however irrelevant, the kid has enough talent for a 12, 13 or 14 year old.

Dominating 16's socal, a pretty strong division, is no less of a stretch, than Deiton dominating national level 16's. That is exactly why i mentioned the names of the top kids, so you could see the absurdity of your claim, but you refuse to see it and that is fine.

Maybe if you were less outlandish and extravagant in your statements, Deiton would have gotten a wild card, at least into 14's easter bowl.

yeah but if he really could dominate 16s socal he wouldnt lose to a guy 85 in socal even on a bad day. im not saying hes bad but u gotta see how outrageous it seems to ppl on the outside when you say deit can "dominate the 16s" at age 12, 13 or whatver age he is

Brad, I thought your goal was top 20,if it is top 20 I can see that as doable outcome, but to dominate the 16s,Deit has to beat
Marcos Giron,Dennis Nguyen,Johnny Wang,Spencer Simon,Alexio Halebian,Dennis Mkrtchian ,Ace Matias,Reo Asami,Sahak Bazrganian,Mika DeCosta,Daniel McCall, and many more... come on Deit just lost to Stefan Risager, this kid is #85... your statement that Deit is going to dominate is like me saying that Donald Young is going win the grand slam this year... possible,yes.. probable NO WAY... but no one can really say.. if USA can have a black president ,I guess anything can happen...

When you say that deiton is not getting pushed around and you see the possibilities, I agree. The reason I think he is talented is because he can hit with these guys, get games of them, in other words compete and sometime in the future he could beat them. However, that does not constitute domination. There are kids out there who are playing up an age group and are having some decent results and even better than decent. Deiton's age group now is 14's (ok, will be in 3 weeks), so by playing 16's he is only playing up one age group. Many other kids are doing it and have more impressive results on a national level, but nobody is screaming domination.

I wonder who has a better chance? Donald Young winning an ATP title or Deiton dominating 16's. Ladies and Gentlemen, place your bets.... I will have to go with Donald Young, he gets all the wild cards he needs, thus better chances than Deiton, who could not get a wild card.

I hope this joke is not offensive. Apologize in advance to both Baughman and Young families.

He will play at this age level and work on his game as for the tournys he plays were not to concerned if he gets in or not right now were just using the tourny's we do play to see what we need to work on. Even him getting mad over a bad call needs to be worked on and as So Cal said even on a bad day a kid of Deiton caliber should not lose to who he did . But really our goal is not to even play too many Jr Tourny's this year and being on court 4-8 hrs a week may not do it but will see.

i think last time he played JW he jurked him from corner to corner and i must say watching him running down the ball was very impressive his defense was great but even then it just showed how deit could dictate a player like JW and i know they both have improved will see .He played Spencer a little while back and lost 1 an 1 and in that almost every point was at "AD" and what it shows me is with some playing time he can do what he wants.

This kid he lost to was hitting great he was 3 or 4 yrs older about 50 pounds heavier and he's has a 12 yr old for the most part out hitting him and in a lot of the rally out muscling him and dictating .Were just trying to teach him some patients so he can finish the job .

If every game went to "AD" and he lost 1 and 1, it shows that he has no idea how to play big points, or folds under pressure every time the point is as significant as it is on a break point or a game point.

Well, good luck to your boy. Hope he can figure some things out on his own or with a help of a professional near him. I have to go now.

No offence taken ill show it to Deit he needs some motivation he's wanting to play football more then tennis . He needs a little waxing over on the mind but as for the tools and power to get the job done he has, its the brain lol will see.

the guy was a lefty and couldnt shut the serve down he said, he kept coming up with a great delivery and Deit told me his serve was impressive as for Johny Wang Deit lost 7 5 64 but JW suprized him with the slice and dice but i watched that match and trust me Deit was dictating and it came down to unforced errors.

hey don't call stick-man a twig lol. hes always running pass patterns making me throw ,he talks about changing sports "tightend" but i agree hes really thin and those guys are huge

ya he would have to buff up a lot if he wanted to be a football player. probably to young to lift weights

Dang Brad, keep him away from football. The evidence we are seeing on concussions from high school football gets worse all the time. Maybe a little soccer or basketball but I hope he stays away from football, especially since some kids in his age group have a lot of weight on him.

He has a new coach to help him with his tennis so he wont be doing it on his own and he signed 2 contracts so he has to start committing more to tennis to meet his obligations so will just see what happens ,but your right he will have to put alot of muscle on "loads"if he wants to play with the pigskin.
