Can JC Ferrero bounce back?

Last year, JC Ferrero was in the hunt for the #1 spot competing with Federer and Roddick. However this year has been a letdown for a number of reasons, beginning with the chickenpox early in the year onto the numerous leg/quadcricep injuries which has seriously hindered his progress. Is this guy capable of bouncing back? If he's really injured...I wonder why he continues to play thru it.

I remember the same question has been asked about Hewitt and Safin after last year's disappointments. Well, those guys have answered this question and I am sure Ferrero will get back to top 5. He will be a contender at RG next year.

I think hes done, stick a fork in him. If he is lucky he will crack the top 10 next year

The same was said about Hewitt at the end of last year. He definitely has the game to get back there. Regained confidence and healthy year will bring him back.

A large part will depend on his draws early in year. If he plays Federer, Roddick, or Safin in any non-clay court event he is history. If he is lucky that wont be until the quarters or semis, if he is unlucky it could be in the round of 32. Top five? That will be hard with Federer, Hewitt, Safin, and Roddick all playing very well.
He is not better than any of those except on clay so it doesnt leave him much room. I believe he and Coria are the two best clay courters if both are playing well though.

I almost feel like how many were discussing about Hewitt situation at beginning of the year, look where he is no.3 and only marginal difference from Roddick.

If he is healthy, then yes I'm sure he is going to bounce back and I hope he will.

Hold your horses there poncho,
when he's on his game hes not just a clay courter,
remember he was the 1st guy since Ivan Lendl to win more then 30 matches on clay and hard court in 2003.

He also got to the final of the US open, and SF Auz open 04,
and only lost to Fed, cos of a rib injury.

Its in his head, a good performance in the Davis cup will sort it out.

Ferrero would not have beaten Federer in the Australian semis. His only non-clay win over Federer was Madrid semis and that is because of Federer's mental block about being #1 last year, the same reason he had his only ever loss to Roddick in the Canadian Open semis where #1 was also at stake.

He isnt just a clay courter but he will never win a slam on anything but clay, and will regularly lose to the other top players on hard courts, even at his best.

Ok he played awesome against Agassi, I admit. I doubt he can duplicate that performance with any regularity though. Hewitt was definetely sluggish I thought, the parts I saw anyway. He also got injured after missing set points to take a 2 sets to 1 lead in the quarters.

I think you are underestimating Ferrero's abilities on other surface. He gave a good match to Hewitt and Mark on grass also last DC final.

No question he can bounce back if he is healthy. He is very talented, not just on clay.

For whatever reason, people have short memories. JCF was awesome in 2003 and 2002. He has the talent to compete with Hewitt, Roddick, Safin. No one is in Federer's league right now.

I think he will improve his results no doubt, I just dont think he will make it back to the top 5. I think his year has been a lot worse than Hewitt's was last year.

Ferrero won't be back, he doesn't have the serve or forehand for fast surfaces. He came up with the goods in 2003, but it isn't 2003 anymore. He might still do good damage on clay but he will be lucky to ever crack the top 10 again. He is definitely struggling with the depth in mens tennis because he has to fight for so many points. No cheap points for Ferrero.

Well, look at current top 10, how many of them have the serve or forehand:

3 Hewitt 6 Henman 7 Coria 9 Nalbadian 10 Gaidio.

Well, half of current top 10 shouldn't be in top 10 according to your criteria. People keep talking about power taking over tennis just don't know what they are talking about. Power is important, but is not absolutely required. Skill and determination are as important if not more so. JCF when healthy can be as good if not better than those 5 top teners above.

We'll see.

Are you doubters crazy!!?Ferrero will be back -look for a strong DC final to act as a springboard into 2005.Truly adept on hard or clay and with an absolute cannon of a forehand.
JCFs stock is very cheap at this price.

I did not see the DC final. I admit I was surprised he took Mark and Lleyton to five sets on grass. Even so I never expect Mark in another Wimbledon final, and I never felt Lletyon was playing very well in 2003.

Well I am here now,

There is no doubt that Ferrero will be back, I have said before that he could be the one to challenge Federer as he hasn't had mental scars inflicted on him by Federer this year. When he get's his confidence back he can become an even better to what he was before.

I expect some steady results leading up to the clay court season, then he will take of and build his confidence back.

Next year you will see.

i think ferrero will get back into top 10 next year, without any small pox or injuries bothering him, he will be as good as he was last year...
even though i think changing racket to head was stupid....
he should get his NXG Graphite back.....
