Well, it's the first tournament (along with Houston) of the French Open clay season.

The 2009 Grand Prix Hassan II is a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It will be the 25th edition of the Grand Prix Hassan II, and is a ATP Tour World 250 event on the 2009 ATP World Tour. It will took place at the Complexe Al Amal in Casablanca, Morocco, from April 6 through April 12, 2009.

Defending Champion Gilles Simon will not be defending his title this year. The Seeds, in order, are:
1. Igor Andreev
2. Rainer Schuettler
3. Albert Montanes
4. Victor Hanescu
5. Florent Serra
6. Marc Gicquel
7. Christophe Rochus
8. Arnaud Clement (Eliminated First Round)
_______
So who do you guys think is going to take the whole thing? Will Andreev live up to his seeding? Can Albert Montanes reach the final again?

seems a quiet tourny but there was a great stream for it earlier, I'm tempted to follow a match a day or something just to watch tennis in some semi-decent quality xD

gotta back andreev though I guess I'll keep a half eye on Gil again, see if he can keep building good results in these 250s and build off his performance at miami

Decided to give Schuettler the nod. He has been doing well recently. Can't remember the last time, if any, that he won a title. Would be nice if he did.

The quality of the stream is really good for such a low level tourney. The stream for Delray beach, for example, was much worse in quality.

Going with Andreev for the win, but my sympathies are with Juan Carlos! I still remember 2003 when the "Big 4" was Agassi, Ferrero, Federer, and Roddick. How far we've come.

I feel kinda sorry for Ferrero. He was #15 in Feb 08, his highest in 2 years but then he slarted sliding down and down for the rest of the year.

That's because he was injured and missed many months form May to September. He was carrying an abductor injury even when he beat Rafa in Rome (sure Rafa had big blisters that week as well though).
He was out with the same injury from mid-February till Miami.

Anyway, JCF beat the elder Rochus fairly easily today, 6-2 6-3. I hope he's physically 100% coz then he has a very good chance to go deep in the draw this week.

JC could probably handle most of his draw all the way up to Andreev. If he's good physically and still plays close to his old level.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks very much.

I was looking forward to see Simon in there :(

That does seem very strange. i gotta look into why he's not defending his title. he's gotta be getting in clay shape somewhere, doesn't he?

There was a great quality stream today here:http://atdhe.net/live-tv-5996.html

Hopefully, they'll keep it up all week.

As for who'll win, I'm going with Serra. He looked solid today and usually does well in these small clay events.

i just saw this result, and i still cant believe it  serra seems to have been improving since i first saw him on hard at rogers cup losing miserably to nadal ..... thomaz gone???  .... well not totally, as he's still in the dubs.

There's a possible discrepancy about the time the order of play begins according to my previous post. one time states 5:00 a.m. ET, but according to the google time converter, that cannot be correct, because the "local time" in morocco that the first match is supposed to begin on court central is 11:00 a.m. Casablanca time, but as you can see, the time converter states that when it's 11:00 a.m. in Casablanca, it w/b 4:00 a.m. California time, which w/b 7:00 a.m. ET, isn't it? ah well, 4 a.m is 3 hours from now, so i'm off to dreamland and i'm not going to set my alarm. if i wake up, fine. and if i don't oh well

it's the moroccan team that's currently playing (sad to say with that hideous "atp world tour" net in place) and that match is probably the last of the day, currently being shown on channelsurfing.net ........ currently the spaniards are up a set and 4-2, but live score seems to be on the fritz, so exact score uncertain ...

couple thoughts from matches seen so far.

jfc is 10% of the player he once was, watch him against potito today, and was hugely unimpressed.

gil is working himself into a decent claycourter, great match against lubji.

the first day was really impressed with Serra handiling of Bellucci. Serra showed some good agressive tennis, hopefully he can continue like that.

Question for somebody, is it usually that cold in Casablanca this time of year?

props to frederico, he already made one clay semi this year so he seems pretty happy on the surface.

Might have to try catch a couple of matches tomorrow, not had time to tune in really

Hi there Love. we are very proud of our boy. he leave everything on court. Rui Machado is also a big fighter (our number 2)

he just handled Ljubicic and moves on to the quarters.... hehehe...

be sure to consider putting in in the poll next time... the way he is doing now is working wonders for our tennis. we have tennis on newpapers and news broadcast everyday now. kids all over are rushing to the stores buying tennis stuff.. if he keeps up his good form for the rest of the year we might just have a boom in tennis for the upcoming years....

Gorecki is Happy!

oh. my. gosh. it took these guys 1 hr, 17 mins to throw away more set points between them than i could keep track of. finally, devilder didn't want it less. :-?

anyone else watching Gil vs Montanes right now?

it's been pretty entertaining tennis, up and down in the first set so far with both players having broken once, Gil just survived a mammoth service game to bring it to 6-5 on serve

if andreev doesn't raise his level above what it was yesterday, gicquel will send him off much more quickly than zverev did (not) yesterday. gicquel w/b looking to close out games much more quickly. to me, igor's big mistake yesterday was not wearing the sleeveless, and he seems to be correcting that error today -- he's got a BP to start! :D
