Craig, bet AK don't wash down that BBQ with a gallon of sweet tea, eh? Knew I was in NC when I stopped at a Pit n Git for petro.
The locals do for sure...that's one thing I can't adjust too. Take a big glass of unsweet, put in 1/2" of sweet, and the whole thing is sweet! And people drink whole glasses of it...whew...I dunno bout that!

tennismx, must discover the cooking bag. And keeping boiled chicken breasts handy in the fridge, not just for bottles.

I just wish I could cook lol

Hey I learned by watching tv cooking shows. I also picked some things up from my grandmother and mom. (Grammys are absolutely priceless) But today I still watch cooking shows like mad and grab a lot from them. It's not hard to learn... it does take some concentration and a little know how. I tried to emulate the TV chefs--how they used their knives, how they chopped, how they stirred/beat things, etc...everything. It's really not hard once you have some basics down! You should really keep at it, tennismx. Are you still living at home, in college, or on your own? I didn't do much at home except baked some things, then tried a lot more in college, and then started all the time when I was on my own. BTW, I once met the Frugal Gourmet! Was the biggest thrill, I was 12. Today Alton Brown's my favorite guy on TV of course (think everybody loves that dude).

And you were a boy of 12 at the time?!! You were lucky to escape the clutches of "The Grim Raper" (Shudder)

There once was a 'perv' in his day
Who was known as The Frugal Gourmet
His career it had burst
Fondling underaged knockwurst
His out-of-court settlements: paid.

"Hi I'm Jeff Smith, Methodist minister and host of the once popular PBS show 'The Frugal Chef'. Today, I'm "cumming" to you from the Oregon State Penitentiary here in beautiful Salem, Oregon located in Marion County. Today on our show, my 'partner' 'Tiny' and I will show you how to make:
Hot 'n steaming Kielbasa simmering in blue jeans. And for dessert, it's an old (er, make that young) favorite of mine: banana cream pie with a hacksaw filling inside! We'll be right back to begin preparing our feast right after this paid-for message from our sponsors: the good people at the law firm of Lay, Back & Wackit. Please stay tuned."

Yeah, I know the stories. Don't think he had anything planned--I was w/ about 200 other people at the time. ;-) It's unfortunate, his story. I grew up in the Methodist church as well, so that was another aspect that made it difficult to hear about. But whatever he did or didn't do, he did have a very entertaining show for quite a few years! He passed away last year, BTW.

Yes, I really need to learn to cook. I'm in my first year of college, while living at home, but I'm moving into my own place next summer, faaar away from momma and daddy. I really like Subway, and I know they have some good deals (especially in the afternoon, when they're trying to get rid of the day's stuff lol). I could live on cereal and easy mac maybe. I hope I eventually marry a man that can cook. Poor guy might starve haha. My bf can cook, maybe he's a keeper haha.

I wouldn't marry a woman who couldn't cook even though I can cook myself. Can do anything from bbq to baking. I guess I learned to cook because i like to eat even though you wouldn't guess that because I'm not big. Nothing better than a browniebottom choclate swirl chesecake one of my dessert specialties.

Don't you have a meal plan in college? I ate most of my meals in college on meal plan, it was pretty awesome food though.

Just because I'm a girl does not mean that when I'm married I gotta do the cooking. And I asked my bf, and he says he'd gladly cook for me. I'll return the favor somehow.

I go to a small college right now, and they don't have a meal plan or anything. But UGA, however, they do. That's where I'll be going next summer, and they have a Chikfila, yay! (They have a huge gym too to keep off the freshman 15 lol-even though I'll be a junior then.)

Cooking isn't really hard...

Totally agree, following steps in a cookbook is not hard at all, however making your own dishes that are nutrious and original is difficult. I usually use william's sonoma's cookbooks and then I add or take out stuff from the recipe that I don't like.

There are some people though that love cooking with a passion and have this ability to create, one friend of mine didn't follow a cookbook when he would cook. He figured out which herbs, spices, or w/e, goes together with certain things. He wouldn't let me try if he wasn't sure how it would turn out but once he finds the right mixture he lets me try and its often really good.
