Nishikori beat Chung in 5 at RG last year and I was posting something like wow, Nish, you were really lucky to get away with that one...

imo he will go further than Nish, though Nish is so talented. For one things I see that this is a real big tough guy, not a fragile origami like Nish, sorry to say.

If Zverev had not chosen to take it to the ball board route he'd have showed better variety of game. Interesting to see how he goes in the next match.

This guy is good.

Has improved his serve. Has improved his fh dramatically. He used to have a tomic/mannarino fh but now he takes solid cuts on every fh.

That’s post nadal generations big problem, few have top tier fhs. Nearly all have bhs better than fhs on absolute levels. Or mid level fhs which don’t cut it against the best.

coric, zverev, Chung, tiafoe are good examples. Coming up all of them have bhs that are on absolute levels better than their fhs. Which means their bhs are more useful for winning points than their fhs. 3/4 are athletically gifted but still struggling for big wins at late ages compared to previous gs winners.

Wilander made this observation first. That it’s very difficult to win slams when your bh is your best shot. The post nadal generation sums up his observation nicely.

Shapo, kyrgios, Felix, Chung and Minotaur. IMO One of these guys will win a slam first other than usual suspects.

Vamos :)

But I think Kyrgios FH is not really good. It's like 80% defensive short n spinny, 20% deep but still spinny. On fast court he should have some flat forehands for a weapon.

Chung was already dealing with injuries in the past. I am wondering if he would have a similar injured plagued career like Kei's.

He is the future of tennis in general, not only Asian tennis. He destroyed Shapovalov in the Next Gen ATP finals and defeated here in Australia both Zverev and Djokovic.

I admire him alot. He has a really impressive game and the knowledge to execute what he has as positives well. He also seems to know what hasn't/isn't working for him and actually made an effort to improve those aspects of his game instead of overcompensating with his strengths. That alone is impressive because there are many young players who just beat you with their good side and pray you don't figure that weakness out.

I will however plead caution in calling him the future of anything. As an American I have seen us over here do it to virtually every single up and coming player then proceed to punish them when they don't live up to the hype we created. Chung has a lot of potential I won't deny that, but lets not be handing him any crowns or anything....

Is there any other future up-and-comer from Asia?

Chung is not just the future of Asian tennis, he is the "now" of Asian tennis.
