With Nadal's decline it's starting to look now that at least the last 6+ years has been a weak era in clay. Long gone are the days of clay specialists, even a prime Djokovic has failed to win the FO against a 1(2) slam wonder in Wawrinka who is a year older then Nadal.
Dare I say, if Federer was the opposite age of Nadal and was competing at this years final he would of won. But Federer has never been great on clay, he's just a great all round player and that's what lead him to countless finals at the FO.
It will be very interesting to see who else wins the FO in the next few years, if more ranked outsiders win then this certianly shows that clay tennis has certainly been in a weak era for sometime and Nadal has capitalised on it.
