Clay Weak Era?

With Nadal's decline it's starting to look now that at least the last 6+ years has been a weak era in clay. Long gone are the days of clay specialists, even a prime Djokovic has failed to win the FO against a 1(2) slam wonder in Wawrinka who is a year older then Nadal.

Dare I say, if Federer was the opposite age of Nadal and was competing at this years final he would of won. But Federer has never been great on clay, he's just a great all round player and that's what lead him to countless finals at the FO.

It will be very interesting to see who else wins the FO in the next few years, if more ranked outsiders win then this certianly shows that clay tennis has certainly been in a weak era for sometime and Nadal has capitalised on it.

Never heard of a 2 slam wonder before

The shock waves Wawrinka's win has caused for some posters here. Great stuff. Give me more.

Not many gave him a chance of winning the FO, I'm a big fan of Stan. Love his style of play.

I thought he'd be dangerous if he had his head in gear. He did, I'm not too surprised.

We play in an era with more topspin and baseliners than ever before. There are few outright outstanding clay players but in terms of depth there's probably more than ever.

Clay Weak Era?

100% how else can we justify one man winning 9 GS in this surface?

Federer loosing at 1st,2nd,3rd,4th round until raafa shows up to play the clay GS and suddenly roger is in finals, that totally explains who created the clay weak era.

Well, it is the weakest surface of 3 of the big 4.

But if you are a clay court specialist it is easier to win on clay than it is for a grass court specialist to win on grass.

Grass favours upsets more, easier to unsettle players on a surface like that. You have more control on clay.

I guess the OP didn't watch the match. It was the best final I've watched in years. Even Andy Roddick twitted that these guys were playing like a computer game and it looked unreal. Looking forward to another final between these two.

Entire era now is very weak and keep getting weaker. But I guess it's more notable for clay since 90s clay was extremely strong.
