Those old AO and USO logos in the thumbnail. Nostalgia..

Anyway, I like this approach. Might as well be honest and say it now. He’s got a chance

I think this is the year it can happen. No Roger, Rafa is out of the way at the French, Wimbledon is in the bag, nobody at the USO can challenge him there.

If it happens, Rod Laver and Djoker would be the only men to have done it
We are living in truly historical times. Enjoy.
There will never be another one like him.

Like him how, as in someone who will win as much as him?

I think his narrative is unique and won't be seen again for ages, because he followed on from two other players of the same era who legitimately had claims to being the greatest ever, not just of their era, and looks like he's going to surpass them by a fair bit. Maybe someone as prolific will come along in not THAT long a time but I doubt they'll have this sort of career arc which appears so proven, and we'll probably be saying "but Djokovic had to overcome the great Federer and Nadal whereas Dennis McTennis only has to deal with scrubs like Andy Roddick Jr."

Let's see what happens in Wimbledon, if he wins the damn thing, CYGS will be a real possibility. For now, it seems he was in a better position in 2016.

To cite just one achievement.

There will never again be a player that knocks off a player that was 105-2 at RG and had lost only three sets in the last six years (that RG dominance by Rafa will never happen again for that matter).

That is the type of greatness that will never happen again.

I had never heard him speak before. Seems like a thoughtful guy. Is he now the most successful coach ever in terms of titles? Has to be up there given that he’s coached Djokovic for so long. It’s interesting the path the Big 3 have - Nadal from childhood having Toni, then Moya to boost his late career, Federer going coachless for periods and not sticking with one for more than a few years, and Djokovic basically having the one guy along with Becker/Agassi/Goran to help out. And Pepe lol

I wonder what language the two speak to each other btw. He’s Czech but his English doesn’t seem to be something he’s used to, I wonder if he knows Serbian

CYGS is not that big of a deal. He already holds the current Wimbledon, RG, AO titles.
And the US Open was stolen from him by officials. So he effectively has non calendar year GS.

The candor from the Djokovic team is refreshing. It's nice to see an athlete and coach be open about their goals and not spout off cliches
Interesting that he does not mention the Olympics as well as a goal though. I found that point to be a little poignant, you would expect a coach would mention it as a potential challenge. Would he really skip probably the final chance to win a gold?

Djok is a lock for Wimbledon
Nobody is ever a lock for a tournament unless it was Rafa at RG for over a decade, and he even lost in 2009 and 2015.. Remember USO 2020, we heard from every Djoker fan he was a "lock" there and we all remember what happened.

Really won't be surprised. Kudos to Novak for maintaining the drive and condition after all these years and the unfavourable circumstances last year. I feel like recently he has stopped caring whether he's like which is good for him - he plays best when vilified anyway.

The only reason I don't want him to achieve this is less me not wanting him to succeed than me hoping that the next gen can finally rise to the occasion. We need new winners to keep things interesting - but man how many times have we said this here and things are still looking bleak as ever

I had never heard him interviewed in English before, good stuff from Coach V, he seems really charismatic. Fluent in English for sure:

Djok is a lock for Wimbledon where he is defending champ. USO is also very good surface for Djok.

He will not win Wimbledon. He will be stopped by:

No, Djokovic himself said after his victory at RG that his 2 main goals this year are the CYGS and the Olympic Gold.

Very tiny chance of a CYGS, probably none.

Near zero chance? Nonsense.

There are only two Slams left and he is the world number one and the big favorite at Wimbledon. So it likely comes down to US Open.

Mount Everest has been scaled at RG.

What can I say? I didn’t believe Novak could beat Nadal until he was 4-2 in the fourth set!  o_O

Thought that match was certainly going five sets when Rafa jumped ahead 2-0 in the fourth. But he collapsed after that. Djoker took the next six games from King of Clay. Most stunning performance in the history of tennis. It is true.

Vajda says that Novak still wants to improve his Serve, FH, BH and volleys during his practices and push his game to a higher level. Coach, how about the Overhead?

All these coaches claim that if you have a good serve you will have a good smash. Dont entirely buy it but the two are very closely correlated.

If he makes it he could just retire and be GOAT forever.

Nadal could win 5 more RGs and still would not be enough.

Of course he can do it, that is different from saying he will win it.
Team Djokovic need to be a bit careful here. If they start building hopes up for a CYGS, should he lose Wimbledon the knock on effect could be a real mental let down. This is where he could let Nadal or less likely Federer through the door and win slam race. He has no margin for error being one behind. He cannot afford to fall 2 behind again.
Djokovic himself yesterday said Nadals level is scary good at the moment and both of them are playing well to win Majors and even referenced federer as well so Djokovic clearly sees Fedal as Major contenders.
Given how on a knife edge the slam race is id have thought they would play down the CYGS. Unnecessary pressure for Djokovic.
Nadal clearly all Roland Garros felt the pressure as his game was poor throughout.
Wimbledon is a key event for Djokovic

Vajda gave a hint they know playing OG makes USO21 a bridge too far. And it seems like Djokovic knows it too but he is not able to do a reasonable thing and skip OG.

I hope there is a chance he changes he mind, even at a risk of skipping OG and not winning USO21.

It's much easier in this homogeneous surface era of last 20 years or so

Nadal is such a anamoly on clay.
That's why it's been difficult.
Very unlucky for Djokovic and Federer.
