Critique my slow-mo serves/forehands and hurdle :D

why does it look like a lot of people in their videos are hitting about 15 ft above the net?? is that how you guys maintain a long rally? whenever i hit with ppl I hit probably 1 to 3 feet above the net tops. unless I'm lobbing...

is this how competitive people play? with loads and loads of topspin? (i use sw with lots of topspin, but i guess my strokes are more of a flat shot with the windshield wiper at the end)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA5-pc_IPqI&feature=channel_page

anyway, i was on the phone during the jumping of the net...haha

the serves were just 2 lazy examples...and more of kick serves/slices than anything. I normally try to toss more in front of my so i can come down on the ball more. both those serves went in, btw.

forehands...sorry the vids came out unfocused on the forehand ones. I realize i'm hitting not too much in front of me. I agree I could be turning my shoulders more into the follow through. Someone pointed out that I have a double bend forehand. I'll try to straighten out my elbow more to plow through the ball and not brush up on it as much.

What the heck? haha. I like how you land and roll for a bit.

But your forehand stroke looks nice but the follow through seems a bit off. In fact, I noticed the same thing with the serve.

But other than what I've noticed, I'm pretty jealous of your forehand, haha. Nice dude.

Good forehand. I don't have much to critique there. Maybe try to turn the shoulders for more penetration.

You're lacking a lot of hip and shoulder rotation on the serve, though. Definitely could work on that.

I like the technique on your forehand except I would get you to lengthen out your follow through more then come around like you do, which is fine. Do your balls sometimes land short? If you look at this video its what I'm talking about. Notice how he leads with the racket head after contact? and then it comes around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM0jYWfVFMw Also notice in your video at 1:32 how you lift the wrist and elbow up, which says to me the arm wasn't loose at contact and you're kinda forcing it through.

On your serve you'll notice your toss is too far back. Thats a perfect angle to be looking at. You're well off balance at the end of the serve because of this. At 2:52 your elbow is too much tucked in. Think of throwing a ball over the net in that position with your elbow. It would be difficult. Thats what a serve is basically, you're throwing your racket through the ball. Your elbow should be like this at that moment....

...also notice how your left arm doesn't stay extended when you serve and becomes just slightly bent. This is once again because your ball toss is too far behind you and your body now needs to readjust. At the end of the serve you'll notice how your feet jump forward but your upper body stays behind and your body then makes this shape < just after contact.
Work on tossing more out in front and get that right leg to move forward and into the court after contact. I can explain that to you further if you want more detail.

On your serve your not moving into the court, or putting your weight into the ball, im sure if you added that you would get tons of pace offa the ball, nice g strokes there, and ive got to say: EPIC FAIL on the jump ;).

I think you're focusing on brushing the ball too much on your forehand. You need to extend through the ball more. I think that you could really benifit from hitting with a straighter arm. That extreme double bend is probably what is forcing you to brush the ball so much.

On your serve, try pausing the video at your contact point. You'll see that your upper body is falling away to the left, resulting in a very low point of contact.

P.S. My net hurdling skills own yours, by the way! :)

haha, well you try gaining 50 lbs AFTER college (20-25lbs DURING college)....not pretty or fun :(

also, it was a pretty taut net - maybe that's standard, but I'm used to jumping nets at outdoor parks. they seem to be a little lower in the middle....and then there's the cell phone...hehe

i'll try to post some better vids of groundstrokes and serves. those were the only 2 serves I shot- i know I can toss it out more in front and follow through better. However, it's that kinda how you're supposed to toss a topspin serve? right above you--even more behind you?

here are vids of normal speed forehands - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3nnKpAGJ_M&feature=channel_page
works pretty well for me...I can "afford" to hit it a little later b/c of the brushing/windshield wiping motion...but I will try to straighten out my elbow more and hit the ball more out in front. Also will try to rotate more into the follow through with my shoulders.

Well 50 lbs or not, I'm still envious of your groundstrokes.

thanks man. here's the main thing that has made my forehand what it is (for better or worse)

I DO use that double bend forehand.. bend in my elbow, bend in my wrist - wrist doesn't always have to be bent. Sometimes my elbow will straighten out more to reach for shots.

But I find that keeping my elbow bent and close to my body really lets me rip at the ball with great control.

I love going for passing shots and for the lines and that's what enables me to do so.

wow....no one's gonna say something bad about my footwork? maybe it looked OK for those 4 shots. :)

best buy's return policy is very lax. but you should ask a friend, don't take my word. You can return anything...except for opened movies and games. even if you tried it out, you will be able to return for full refund within 14 or 30 days...don't know which
