American tennis star and former no. 1 Lindsay Davenport announced her decision Tuesday to pull out of the 2008 French Open citing "personal reasons."
The 31-year-old Davenport, who has never won in the Roland Garros singles event, withdrew from the French Open due to "personal reasons," a day after top-ranked American men's player, .... According to tournament organizers, Davenport did not elaborate further on her decision to withdraw. In 1996, Davenport captured the French Open doubles title with Mary Jose Fernandez.
The three-time Grand Slam champion's best singles finish so far on Paris clay was in 1998 when she reached the semifinals the same year she bagged the U.S. Open singles crown. Davenport later added the Wimbledon in 1999 and the Australian Open title in 2000.
Aside from Davenport and Roddick, Americans Meileen Tu and Meghann Shaughnessy also pulled from the tournament due to injuries.

Davenport said sometime ago she would probably skip the french as clay was never her best surface and probably her chances of winning it or going very deep were slim, so she probably decided to skip it to get back in shape, recover from the flu, and be ready for action at wimbledon.
