Day 19: The USO wins

My apologies to my one reader, F. Foster Wallace. I took good notes on the missing days but I neglected to post and keep you informed.

(They seem to have evolved into a stream of angry rants and observational minutiae that no one but a nut case would possibly care about. And of course random observations concerning the insane crowd behavior. Why are people standing in this heat in a 45 minute line to get an Emirates branded seat cushion. Am I hallucinating ?)

It doesn't matter because after 19 days the USO beats me. I did not stay until the end of the last day match today. :( I left before the end of girls junior doubles finals (an all-American affair but I'm country neutral so the fact doesn't sway me).

But it took a blast of final weekend sustained high heat and humidity, constantly being told to "wait for the changeover" (thank you up to 15 minute hold with the no changeover after first game !), too much junk food and a multitude of other annoyances*** that may not bother you on a one or several session visit but will add up after about 190 hours on-site and eventually crush you.:(

I can't even imagine the hijinks ESPN commentators must have gone through trying to get people interested in Kerber v. Righty Twin but I wasn't buying. I was most interested in the future which was
Felix A-A v. Tsitsipas. It was really tough conditions and A-A got the upset over the #1 junior. I expect he'll hold the winner's trophy come tomorrow. I also saw his doubles as well but he lost in straights to a rather enthusiastic pair.

I won't bore you with the rest because after counting heads I have come to the conclusion no one cares about juniors.

I did not catch any of Jon or Pat oldMac who played yesterday or today or both; I don't remember. I note the absence this year of the wheelchair tourney I assume do to the para-Olympics ? The final last year I recall as being a very entertaining battle and with a decent crowd too.

Note to Toro restaurant owner. I know your "concept" as it was explained to me is low key but given the constant sensory assault at the USO consider if you come back next year putting up some kind of sign. I walked by you maybe a hundred times before I realized what you were about.

***Dear women that insisted on doing the water fountain into the bottle carnival trick instead of using the designed specifically to fill your water bottle fountain immediately adjacent. Thank you for testing my on the spot meditation skills.
