My baby sitter doesn’t care if I’m playing in a 3.5 league or a 4.5 league. If she tells me she only has 2 hours, I’m not sticking around waiting 20 minutes for your partner either.

Get a new babysitter who is more flexible

I've played a bunch of 2:1 when we were missing a 4th and there are ways to adjust tactics to optimize the chance of winning.

I feel like when I play 1 on 2 occasionally because the fourth player cancelled late or got injured, my record is better than in doubles. Probably reflects on the fact that I prefer singles to doubles and am still learning how to play well with a partner if they are not at the same level as me.
