Del Potro is the modern day Safin

This guy should easily have won 4-5 slams by now and taken his share of titles from Nole and Rafa much like how Marat should have taken slams away from Roger.

He's got a deadly forehand and is an all surface threat. But he got taken out by injuries as he was entering his peak and ever since returning has been struggling with consistency and/or still injuries.

He beat Fed and Nadal back to back to win a slam (something Murray could never do). Similarly Safin beat PEAK Fed and PEAK Hewitt back to back to win a slam.

Anybody else see the similarities between the two?

Safin had the talent but no motivation. DelPo has the talent, but struggles with injuries. Are they similar? Not really.

Lol at you comparing a scrub like Del potro, who had to take HGH his whole junior career to make him equivalent to the average man.

I don't see too many similarities. I would say Safin was more naturally talented and actually moved better for a big guy than Del Potro, I would like to see Del Potro improve his serve and transition game (though not sure how necessary it is to have a transition game these days?). Safin probably also has a better backhand than Del Potro.

Totally different games. For some his size, Delpo has a rather weak serve and he often gets drawn into grinding rallies (even though he can obviously hit hard when he wants to). Safin was a far more aggressive player that looked to control every point as soon as possible. Safin was a far more entertaining player to watch. More charisma and more of an explosive game that created exciting tennis

Lol source for DelPo's HGH use?

On topic, Safin was a much less robotic player than Del Potro and more aggressive as well. I'd say he had a better serve and backhand, while Del Potro has the better forehand. Both have been unlucky with injuries.

Care to tell us how you know this? That' a bold accusation without a source, bro.

When on form Juan Martin del Potro is probably the 2nd best player in the world, only behind Rafael Nadal.

Well then, Verdasco is more like Safin. They're pretty tall and their problems are mental; they have immense talent. They also change women like *** starts threads.

Edit: Is N.S.K. now a censored / swear word?

I played juniors with the class of del potro, cilia, query, etc.

I played the same international tournaments as del potro

He was about 5 ft 3 until he was 16/17... Then all of a sudden he grows to 6'6, in a short period time and struggles to walk properly.

His parents are both average height.

If your not aware, HGH and similar hormones used to be very popular during those classes and the classes before.

Of course there's no proof, but it's obvious from all the people who used it at the time, mane his sudden "over growth" .

... I know a kid whose parents are both 5'5'' and 5'7''. He stands at 6'5'' with a 7'0'' wingspan, he's never taken HGH. Some people get lucky

Michael jordan's father was about 5'9''. Jordan hiimself is 6'6''.

Another example, I was 5'5'' at 17. About 3 months later I was 5'9''. Some people just grow late. Currently I'm 5'10'' at 20 and my growth plates are still open (family members including my brother have grown until they are 23-25, I have blood relatives who are 6'6''-6'8'')

Roddick was also 5'2'' at 15. By his 17th birthday, he was 6'1''ish. Once he was on tour, he eventually hit 6'2.5'' by 2004.

Also I wouldn't call Del Potro a modern day Safin. Safin had many aspects in his game in his prime, a monstrous backhand, a very powerful forehand (one of the bests on tour), big serve (not andy roddick big but big). He was a great mover for his size. Only thing that used to get in his way was his mental blocks and injuries that really hampered his career after his australian open in 2005. People say Del Potro may be better because he beat Federer but he beat Federer out of his prime. Safin beat Federer in a thriller 5 setter when he was playing in 2005.

Yaaa? Not buying it, to many players were confirmed to take HGH back then, Sharapova took it to and a few others.

Not buying it
