Djokovic: I'm sorry for Nina and I apologize to all fans in Serbia but my body completely collapsed

I suppose to take these kind of statements right after a loss at face value. He sounds like he was limping, half blind on crutches playing lefty through the matches, but the videos show otherwise - he was just fine, only got his behind whooped. I fear the injury is mental - not physical.
I hope the injury IS mental and not physical, probably a little bit of both.

I like to think it is a little bit physical but his disappointment has made him blow things out of proportion. Hopefully some time with his family will bring back perspective. When is his next tournament?

Yeah I cannot see him going to Cincinnati now. He may not get a tune-up in. I'm not sure he needs one as long as he's healthy going into the USO. What I'm more interested in is seeing if Nadal used the time off to flatten out his groundstrokes and crank up the serve more, a la, 2010 USO.
Yeah that’s true. Djoko just needs rest now. He’s played enough tennis and needs to recover physically and mentally.

All eyes will be on Rafa next week as he begins his us series HC campaign. Will be interesting to see what level he brings. Yeah if he can improve his serve then he will stand a much better chance of winning the us open.

Novak was fine in semis and against Busta but he lost to better oponents on the day. They were practicaly very hot and refused to fold. Getting everything in. Novak tactics wasn't working. But big disappointment is Novak's behaviour on the court like throwing racquet in the stands? That's plain ridiculous and not called for. Should've been disqualified. And then the second thing. He let down his mixed double partner. That was Nina's life chance to get the medal. Poor poor choice to withdraw from the match with his partner.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s just about his attitude. I think you should check your post history to gain perspective, that’s the literal definition of rent free.

Bro, look at my post numbers in general. I joined this forum around 2 years ago, and I have only posted less than 700 times.

669 divided by 2 = 334.5

That’s less than 1 comment every day. I often go weeks without commenting or even logging on here.

I’m barely on this forum compared to most of you guys, because I have a relatively active life outside here.

Now, even if you calculate (percentage wise) my number of “anti-Novak” posts to be a higher percentage of total posts compared to your anti-fedal posts, you will still have a higher number of anti-fedal posts overall compared to me.

Yet it is you accusing me of having a player living “rent free”? That’s, according to basic math, quite hypocritical.

Absolutely atrocious decision making by Novak which is now biting him in his rear!

I was really concerned when he entered Mixed Doubles.

Singles itself was taxing for the players with the humidity sucking everything Outta them. On top of that he wanted to play Mixed Doubles!!

I get his love for country and stuff but I just feel he overestimated his physical capacity and overreached here.

Now despite starting in great form and winning quite a few matches, he returns empty handed.

Not just that, he is now mentally and physically broken which shall have an impact for USO.

Frankly this is one of the most apparently dumb decisions I have seen anyone take oflate.

As a fan I am already gutted and seriously wish someone in his team kick him for this.

This was a great opportunity and am sure had he stuck to singles, he would have snagged atleast one medal to show.

Playing doubles was stupid. Anyway real smart decision would have been to skip Olympics and focus on USO for CYGS. Olympic medal is insignificant thing in Tennis. You don't compromise 21st slam and CYGS opportunity for it.

All the djokerbullies were heavily bashing Fed for withdrawing from French open. But now look at them defending Djokers withdrawl and denying his partner to win a bronze in the olympics.

Djoko is a self-centered athelete....If he wasn't fit why participate in Mixed doubles and hence ruining prospects for his country and fellow athelete.

The injury thing is a eyewash to avoid the emabarrasment of losing 4th time in 2 days

Nina. Nina. Nina. Tired Of Hearing About Nina.

Only in the Olympics could a journeyman player and Mixed Event dominate the headlines.
Djoker needs to stop talking about her and focus on real tennis.
Nobody has heard of her before this.

His behaviour is attrocius. On one side the goody nice to show PR media , but in reality his actual behaviour gets exposed in tough times. And this year lot of times, the Fritz and zverev match in AO, the beretini match in FO. And today in careno busta match

Federer and Nadal handles their losses much more gracefully

Well, after he has done all the venting, screaming and braking rackets he still is one of the most gracious when he loses any match. Always congratulates his opponent wholeheartedly and honestly at the net. I am by no means justifying his on court behaviour, far from it. This is one thing that I cannot stand from Djokovic. He is a role model for many young aspiring kids, and should know better.

"Anti-Fedal posts", lol. Yeah, it's pretty easy to tell you're not around very often if you think that of me. Don't care about how often you come here, though, my point wasn't that you don't have a life. And avoid assuming everyone around here doesn't except you, not everyone spends his life here.

Novak might have ruined his USO chances by chasing this worthless golden slam thanks to the hype. Players are under pressure from the hype we viewers create, when everyone talks of these sorts of stuffs then even players are under pressure to chase.

Novak ideally should have been resting for the USO and focused on his calendar slam.

Lol. People taking shots at him bc of that are showing how much they will find any irrational excuse to hate him. No one had even heard of her until now. Shes a mediocre singles player and is probably thankful she got to compete at the level she did with the GOAT and got some recognition she wouldn't otherwise have gotten.. It's unfortunate and neither of them wanted this, but for ppl to use this as a reason Novak is a terrible, inconsiderate person are idiotic.

So would it be more understandable if she were a big star?

This Novak worship is crazy. Anyone who is hurt by his actions suddenly becomes a piece of sh1t.

The USO line judge, Dimitrov, and now his doubles partner. His fans can't accept that actions have consequences so the people who come out on the losing end of dealing with him have to be the bad guy.

It's actually a lot like the Trumpist phenomenon in the States. Amazing.

Nope. I'm sure you knew that, though. You're just looking for a reason to fight. Get a life.

So why does it matter that no one ever heard of her?

In fact that makes it worse. This was probably the biggest moment of her life and he took it away from her because he's an insincere jerk.

We have seen it happen a zillion times in ATP and WTA tournaments.
Singles player signs up for doubles, plays a few matches, but then has to drop Doubles because it is jeopardizing singles chances. Singles takes precedent; she knew that when signing up with Djoker.

Granted, the scenario is very different as Djoker withdrew AFTER the Singles was over. But the principle is the same. Must protect his singles career going forward into US Open. That is the official explanation.

Too injured to play one more Mixed match.

Who knows what his injuries are. It is all speculation at this point. It is highly suspicious as Annabelle Kroft said. But have to give him the benefit of the doubt we suppose.

Ok I may have confused you with others, but man in even Djokovic news I clearly said the man frustrate me with his stupid decision.
Really his blind fans were saying, he know his body and blah.
I am not even angry about olympics but because of injury if he can't compete in Us open with 100 percent... Man what can I say.
Yeah you and I are on the same page. My initial reaction was “why are you doing this dude, that’s ALOT of extra serving…”

Dont see it. Mixed plays only two sets plus tiebreaker. And partner serves half the time.
Might serve about 6 games per match on average.

That’s minimum 1 hour on court split stepping and running around. Let’s say he averaged around 8 serves hit per service game that’s almost 50 extra full effort serves per match. Yeah that **** adds up, he said it himself.

IMO Djokovic thought he had both Medals in the bag.

Once he lost to Zverev, he was deflated.

Once he lost to Carreno Busta, he didn't want to over exercise himself and didn't care for Mixed Doubles anymore.

That will be a tough lesson for him and management in general: don't get greedy and thinking you got everything in the bag.

Many many players entered multiple events: Barty, Murray, Bencic, Karatsev,Kachanov,... And Djoker is fitter than anybody.Cruised through QF Singles vs Kei. Then suddenly something happened in the second set of SF vs Zed... It all points to some sudden injury.
You are right, looking at how he behaved it all points to some brain injury.

I watched the 3rd set, and he was definitively not playing
nothing close to his level
couldn't hit 3 balls in a row in the court
and watching A Zverev attacking Nole's FH and dominating FH to FH rallies? one needs to be blind to believe that Nole was fit to play that 3rd set

1. how many of these players reached the SF of both draws?
2. except that injuries don't happen that sudden, it's often the case that something accumulates and when athletes don't give their bodies time to recover and heal, 'sudden' injuries happen

Not fit to play (running out of steam - as he said himself, the tank was empty) vs being injured are vastly different things. He didn't look *injured* to me.
