Good resistance from Soeda in the second set. Djokovic could have finished it earlier but this is alright too.

Hopefully the shoulder won't bother him anymore. There is stuff on the line until the end of the season. If he manages to win both Asian events, one would feel he is back in contention for the year end number one. But Fed and Med won't allow it to be easy in Shanghai.

So Nadal won't play until Bercy?

Djokovic has the YE#1 in his own hands. If he wins both Tokyo and Shanghai (where Nadal won't most likely play and can't add any points), he will be a few hundred points away from Nadal at Bercy and then it's all about who can ouperform who the last few weeks.

So with Nadal only playing Bercy and WTFs, he has given Djokovic atleast a say in this to catch up.

Pouille next. If Djokovic goes through, one of Goffin/Shapovalov/Cilic/Chung will await in the semifinal. The other half of the draw has collapsed, with no seeded players remaining.

Djokovic is positive regarding the shoulder so far. No pain in his two singles and one doubles match in Tokyo. The longer it stays away the better we will all feel about it.

I'd bet on Nadal winning the Race to London. But if Djokovic is back to full fitness and the point gap by then is small, then he would have a realistic chance of ending the year as the top guy.

"I played one of the best matches of the season"

Novak Djokovic was very satisfied with his showing against Lucas Pouille in the quarterfinal of Tokyo.

The Serbian defeated the French very convincingly in only 50 minutes and will play David Goffin or Hyeon Chung in the semifinal.

"Definitely one of my best matches this season. Best of this week and it came at the right time. I think Lucas played well at the start of the tournament. I watched him against Nishioka and he was excellent. I served well, a lot of aces and good returns... I used the opportunity and overall I played without mistakes", said Djokovic after the match.

The world number 1 spoke about the upcoming opponent.

"Chung was struggling with the injury and is slowly building his ranking on the ATP list. He is a great guy, hard working, has a good game and movement", said Djokovic and added:

"On the other hand, Goffin is in great form. He played the Cincinnati final and he is getting closer to the top 10. Overall, I am looking forward to the next match.

The big tests start in Shanghai. Good luck man, let's show who is the boss of Asia again and make the YE #1 race interesting...

The dominance and sharpness in his ground strokes is back. That bdtl is a thing of beauty and is like worth gold for him.It is what gets him upper hand in the rallies.
Both backhand and forehand are just firing..The serve has gone to another level. Its so accurate and reliable. And his serving motion has never looked more beautiful. Am I the only one who is seeing his body opening up when he raises the ball for serving?

No more just hitting the Ball to stay in the rallies like we saw in Wimbledon and in pretty much anything after the Aussie open..He is hitting with purpose and to win it..Agreed the opponent's were not at Thiem,Tsipasas,Medvedev level but the way he dismantled every body was impressive..

Shanghai?? Bring it on..

Agreed. He was amazing in Tokyo. The last three matches looked like the Australian Open final. I think he just needed more rest after that Wimbly final. I’m excited for the rest of the season. Come on, Nole!

ok guys don't get to exited. He faced a bunch of nobodys who usually are his 2 or 3 rd opponents on masters or slams. Anyone who has watched him for past 1 week have any opinion of his shoulder injury?

Goffin is number nine in the race to end the year. Pouille was a slam semi-finalist just this year. Yes there are tougher players out there, but they don't have to be Roger Federer for us to have a sense of what kind of form Djokovic was in. He's lost this year and struggled against worse players.

His shoulder seems fine. He served excellently and his back hand was crisp and powerful.

Want to see him dismantle young gen including Medvedev. Just want to know or see his true level when they face off. He has Sisipas and Medvedev from gen next in Shanghai masters. Lets see how he does.

Can we all just appreciate the irony that this Djokovic News megathread was created by "Rafabull?"

In all seriousness, thank you for your contribution to TTW, rafabull.

It is kinda weird though how this thread died in October 2011, until someone bumped it back up in February 2014. I guess during the time we were using the brethren thread started by FreeBird.

He's probably going to play with Krajinovic at the Olympics. Or maybe they're thinking about the Davis Cup or the ATP Cup? Either way, I like watching his doubles matches, even though he doesn't go very far. :giggle:

I think one of the reasons why he does so well in Asia is the support he gets there compared to anywhere else in the world (excluding Serbia, of course). They just love him there.

Nole goes out of his way to learn the language and cultures of places he visits and plays events! I didn't listen to the presentation yesterday; did he speak Japanese? He certainly spoke Chinese when winning in Beijing 6 times!

He tried, he asked the followers on social media how to say "thanks for support" in Japanese, lol
