Djokovic now says he'll play USO if he doesn't have to quarantine

Federer's definitely had a bigger impact than Novak, higher profile no doubt

How do you figure? @myth made a good attempt but it's not convincing enough. Perhaps you can tell? Such things cannot be quantified so it must simply be taken as an opinion. If it's just your opinion, I have no problem (y)

The crowd is always behind Fed wherever and whoever he plays....There's a kind of magic around Fed that can't be found anywhere else....

I like Novak by the way. 4 slams in a row H2h vs Fed and Nadal beating Nadal in every tournament that matters all Ms1000 etc etc but he's not Fed and will never be.

Look the atmosphere on that court...

Machan ... I understand but these are not ways you can conclude someone has a bigger impact.

Let me give you a non-sport example. The Spice Girls sold considerably more records than Mark Knopfler. Who do you think had a bigger impact? If you were to go by numbers, you'd have to conclude that it was the Spice Girls :D

I mean 39 straight wins at Wimbledon 40 at the USO....had anyone dominated the game the Fed has?

I very much doubt Cuomo will lift Quarantine rules for the US Open. I will be insanely shocked if he does. Players either need to suck it up and deal with them if they want to play or choose not to and focus on other tournaments. The rules are in place for the safety of everyone, not just Novak. So he really needs to get off his high horse and deal with it.

Highest number of slam wins, longevity, likeability. Djokovic reminds me of Sampras, great champ but people didn't warm to him. I wonder who has done more ads got more more money from sponsorship deals it's always a sign if companies want you fronting their wares.

Quick Google search Fed net worth $450m, Nole $222m?

I think you're conflating influence with impact. Federer definitely has more influence but impact is usually not seen for years down the road. Who would you say had more impact on how the game is played today? Borg or Lendl?

It's not even about pre-USO quarantine, but afterwards returning to Europe.

Think he easily has more impact and influence than Novak? No one can predict the future but for now it's Federer. I think Fed will retain a higher profile in people's minds even if Novak ends up GOAT, I think if you speak to casual or non tennis fans Fed is really who comes into their minds, 2nd I'd say is Nadal as he really stands out

It's not about NY's rules, but the European rules upon his return

you’re absolutely right. In fact the pandemic would be long gone by now if we implemented something like that. But that would require leadership across the board. So instead we just have a handful of nations/regions recovering and locking everyone else out
Another reasons I don't like politicians, of any party, from any country. I learned at an early age that anyone that values "perception above reality" cannot be trusted.
Regarding the USO, I'd love to see Djoker play, and I don't even like him as a tennis player.

Either NYC rules or EU rules. They are the rules. They are for the safety of everyone and he either needs to deal with them the same way all the rest of us have been forced to have our lives turned upside from this virus. I had it, my mom had it..my mom just tested positive AGAIN yesterday after 3 months. So seriously, Novak not liking the rules? Not a major concern to me.

He's dumber than ditch water for organising a tournament with no adequate precautions during a pandemic that's killed half a million people, then catching the virus, spreading the virus etc etc.

He needs to be removed from the player council ASAP.

The fact that you're in love with him doesn't change the fact that he's dumb as bricks.

ask the Wonderland brigade, aka Novak fans how much I am in love with him.
@beard @Lew II @Nadal_Django

but whether I am in love with Novak or simply respect his achievements doesn't give you the right to speak like this about one of the greatest athletes, big mouth.
so far you're only displaying that your brain is smaller than his "2 cells" or how did you define it.
go get at least some basic respect for people that achieved more than you will achieve in a thousands lives.
or go speak in public, don't hide behind an anonymous user name online to be brave here. Go show your face in real life.

Skipping USO might be a blessing in disguise: time to prepare and save energy for RG.
However, it may also happen, that USO will take place, but RG doesn't, because a second wave of coronavirus appears in the meantime. Then the tennis players might regret skipping the USO.

Doesn't matter what he does running around a tennis court hitting a rubber and felt ball about, when he's so abysmally dumb so as to organise a tennis tournament during the middle of a global pandemic putting peoples' lives at risk due to the lack of adequate safeguards.

Selfish and dumb beyond belief and quite rightfully he's been universally condemned for it.

Doesn't look good, in fact he looks a total idiot.... extremely irresponsible. Who knows if the infection chain led to serious illness or death

In Zadar it didn't lead to any infected among fans though about 400 people were put in isolation for 14 days due to close contact to positive cases, and the few positives all recovered(newsreporter, restaurant owner and his son, driver and 2 physio coaches)

Belgrade is unknown but then they had serious invisible local transmission going around the city as is evident by the current number of cases.

LOL.

Borg has 41 straight wins at Wimbledon. And he has 28 straight wins a Roland Garros (winning the last RG he played.)

BTW, that was during an era when those Tournaments had only 16 Seeded players (NOT 32)

Wimbledon and USO are both fast surfaces.

Borg was clearly more dominant.

But what has any of this got to do with Novak playing a 2020 US Open?

What Novak is saying has nothing to with USO but European rules...

I have a few questions:

Millions of people being infected around the world with a new virus that has been detected in people in every country on the planet.
Hundreds of thousands of people dying in a matter of a few months above and beyond every year for the past 100 years.

The only question you should be asking yourself ... "What will happen to me if I contract SAR-CoV-2 and develop COVID-19?"

Unless things radically change in the US in the coming months (and i know New York at least does seem to be going in the right direction) any of these European countries that let these guys in (as much as i'm sure they'd happily go for it they can't have one rule for djokovic and one for everybody else, they will have to let them all in without quarantine) to just go about freely should have god damn uprisings.

The USO could well be a recipe for disaster as according to John Hopkins University as of yesterday:

US records world record 77,300 new infections in one day

3.6m confirmed infections in the US now...
How many of those in NYC? What's happening in Florida or Arizona is irrelevant to the USO

Well. I responded but my post seems to be gone. Not sure what to make of that and if you got a chance to read it?

The French Open officials are perfectly aware that players arriving from NYC will need to play the clay warm-up events at Madrid and Rome in order to prepare for RG.

RG officials imposing a 14 day quarantine on these returning players would effectively ban them from playing the warm up clay events.

Obviously, exceptions will be made for these pro athletes that just returned clean from the NYC bubble where they were constantly tested for two weeks and living under lockdown shelter in place conditions.

These athletes cannot be treated the same as an ordinary American tourist arriving from NYC.

That is the only policy that makes sense!
Are you living in a world that I don’t understand
In the fact that tennis has some sort of exceptions, from Governments rules, they don't
I actually understand what Novak was trying to say, if he has to quarantine coming back from from the Us to Europe it may influence his choices
He has no influence over a counties choices , about how they deal with Coviid19

Yes, you do not understand how the real world operates and are confused. I will help you.

You need to recognize that there are many places around the world that currently have 14 day quarantine requirements for anyone entering their city/state/country.

But many of these places might grant exceptions to, for example, a businessman who is entering for a few days to attend a business conference. Why? The rationale is that such short term visitors cannot be expected to quarantine long term and these visitors are essential to keep the economy running.

Similarly, if I travel from NYC to Paris, the French government will require me to quarantine for 14 days.

But if Djoker travels from NYC to Paris to play the French Open, the French government will waive the quarantine requirement because the government has decided to conduct a tournament.

So you see, there are always exceptions to these quarantine rules. ALWAYS.

He probably does have influence in Serbislavia .. and obviously expects it elsewhere too.

It was up to the FFT to allow for this when they rescheduled the tournament. They didn't, so stiff sh1t.

A 30 day quarantine plus daily covid testing should be mandatory for all players and their entourages, foreign and domestic. Additionally, muzzles/masks should be worn during matches because if there's anything covid has taught us, it's that we're all literally walking bio-weapons capable of accidentally murdering the innocent, young and elderly alike .

The Great Struggle against the "Invisible Enemy" is our generation's WWII and we must respond with unwavering obedience and trust in our governmental, scientific, and mass media institutions. Yes, the seemingly endless cycle of fear and confusion is horrifying -- especially to those who have lost their jobs and all hope and the hundreds of millions more who will become financially destitute in 2021 and beyond -- but we MUST accept communo-fascism (i.e. the "New Normal", "New World Order") in our global fight against the modern day Bubonic Plague, Spanish Flu, and Leprosy all rolled into one .

Rest assured my fellow citizens, there is no sinister agenda or paranoid "conspiracy theory" at play and our freedoms and liberties will be fully restored by our noble leaders when the victory over Covid-19, 20, 21, and 22 are complete. Monthly forced vaccinations, biometricID implant payment systems, and 24/7/365 panopticon surveillance are the only answer to our present day woes... and together we shall defeat Covid!

STAY STRONG, REMAIN FEARFUL, AND BE SAFE!

No, you have only confused the current situation by using your “businessman at a conference” example. America’s second largest conference facility, the Orange County (FL) Convention Center, has not hosted a business meeting since March 10. Countless conventions have been cancelled or rescheduled until the late fall at earliest. Florida is still limited to 50-or-less people public gatherings in enclosed spaces so I’m waiting for puppet DeSantis to dance around that restriction when his national convention gets underway in Jacksonville. Most RNC events will now be held outdoors but that’s really not going to work in Jacksonville during August. Can you imagine the sweat pouring out of Pillsbury Donnie as he accepts the nomination? Pence will be on high alert to take over.

Please refrain from posting next time until you research facts, dunderhead!

Wrong!

We are driven by facts and data.

The posting clearly states that different regions around the world have various policies. Some make exemptions to quarantine for business travellers. This is done for economic reasons.

There is simply no one-size-fits-all approach here despite what the "we are all going to die!" scaremongers would lead us all to believe.

Starting on June 22, eligible business travellers to Taiwan can be exempted from the compulsory 14-day quarantine currently in place, according to a statement today from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control.
Activities like product inspection, skills training, and signing contracts as examples of eligible business engagements.

But isn’t it the same rules for everyone? How is it unfair?
French players coming back from USA got to quarantine as well.

It is unfair to ANY player playing in NYC and then wishing to play RG. These players will need to play the Madrid and/or Rome clay events leading up to RG.

Obviously France/Spain/Italy cannot impose a 14 day quarantine on these returning players.

Particularly when these players have just returned from NYC --- one of the safest large cities in the world -- where they have been closely monitored, distanced, and constantly tested for weeks.

I don’t get the unfair part. It would be unfair if the players could skip a quarantine to play tennis. While others can’t. Many people have suffered through this virus w the travel ban and couldn’t see their loved ones.

I don’t feel the slightest sorry for any player if having to quarantine.

There has to be a distinction made between a tourist arriving from NYC and a U.S. Open player arriving from NYC.

The player has just been living in a bubble for two weeks and has been constantly tested. We have no idea where the tourist from NYC has been.

The French government has decided that it is important to hold RG for economic reasons. With fans in the seats?!

Quarantining these returning NYC players is simply incompatible with the decision to hold RG.

I still don’t think it’s unfair that they have to follow rules everyone else have to. It’s not that of important job they are doing and they are filthy rich.

Perhaps the Federation Francaise de Tennis knows something about Djokovic and Nadal that the USTA doesn't! ;)

Please Sons and Daughters of the United States of America, please do not be too disappointed if Novak and Rafa decide to pass on your Tournament for something they might deem more important.
