Djokovic stated data about average age of tennis watchers seriously wrong and misleading

"This "61" age has become "accepted fact" as the average age for tennis fans. But it's been distorted and cherry-picked from the actual study by a number of people in tennis whose agenda it suits, and is seriously misleading.

In ACTUAL fact, the study (in which basically all sports except MLS had very high average ages), only came up with that average in very strict parameters.

It is ONLY in the U.S. It is ONLY on network television. It is ONLY men's tennis (women's tennis has gotten a bit younger). It does NOT include streaming and digital, which is where most younger people consume their sports.

Here is the actual study. It annoys me no end every time someone states this as fact. It's not.

I straight away thought what Novak was saying was rubbish. No way is average age of tennis watchers freakin 61.
Just had to search a tiny bit to get to prove what he said was wrong.
My attention span isn’t long enough to read the entire post.

By the way, when are Slams changing to BO3?

I know most of my mates and young people where I live are more interested in fast paced sports like basketball (NBA especially with the swag), AFL, t20 cricket rather than the more elitist, slower paced sports in tennis, golf, etc.

Yeah I immediately questioned that 61 stat. Network TV in just USA makes sense. A lot of viewership in senior friendly states like Florida and Georgia skewing that number.

I myself only use network TV for Slams and even then not really as I'm using the streaming app provided by the channel not on a TV transmission.

It's basically like asking who relies or even has cable.

Seems more like people are more interested in team sports.

Don't think AFL or cricket are faster paced than tennis but to each their own?

What's one crucial difference between men's and women's tennis at the grand slams?

For US viewers, the difference is that there are only 2 American men in the top 30, and they are both ranked in the bottom end of that, and one of them is an ageing servebot. Whereas, there are 6 American women in the top 30, including a young #4 and the WTA GOAT.

If a modern day Agassi or McEnroe were to come along I think median ages for US viewers would drop. (Not sure about a modern day Sampras, though.)
