The top three players Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Victoria Azarenka have separated themselves from the pack due to their power and consistency.
However, for the women the French Open has always been a wide open event since Justine Henin last won in Paris in 2007. There isn't any woman who has
dominated the French Open since.
I don't think Sara Errani has a chance to win in Paris IF she meets Sharapova, Azarenka, or Serena they are too powerful and consistent for her. Even if one or two out of the three lose I think Errani still doesn't have a chance unless they all lose before facing her. Last year at the French Open Errani beat a mentally weak Stosur to get to the final but Sharapova crushed her in straight sets. Errani's got to hope that two out of the top three lose for her to have a chance to reach the final this year. Errani is very scrappy and mentally tough but she lacks the power.
I think Samantha Stosur should have won a French Open title by now she's got the most consistent results in French Open on the WTA Tour. Stosur reached semifinals in 2009 and 2012 and the final in 2010. Very disappointed in Stosur choking to Sara Errani when the door was open for her to win in Paris last year.
I also believe Stosur has a chance against Sharapova now that she's beaten Maria twice. No Stosur has not beaten Sharapova in a grand slam but the fact that she's gotten some wins over Maria have got to help her confidence when she faces her.
Azarenka is the problem for Stosur she has a 0-8 record against her although the last two times she's played Azarenka have been tough three set matches.
Stosur is probably the only woman on the WTA Tour who has beaten Serena Williams twice in a grand slam this decade. Stosur is the only one I feel who has a serious shot at knocking Serena off on clay.
Stosur's game matches up well with Serena on clay and I do believe she has a chance against Serena.
Remember, Sam beat Serena in the 2010 French Open. Stosur has nothing to lose and no pressure to do well in Paris.
Li Na has won the French Open and she's had consistent results just matters if she has a hot streak. Same for Petra Kvitova she did reach the semifinals last year but I have a feeling with Kvitova and Li Na if they face Sharapova or Azarenka they would lose. But I feel Kvitova and Li Na probably have a better chance upsetting Serena.
