Do you need closed racket face at start of forward swing in 1HBH?

For forehand, it is generally preached that the racket face be closed at the beginning of forward swing because forward swing causes the racket face to open up a bit.
Is the same true of 1HBH drive?

When I try shadow swing, my forearm tends to supinate during upward, forward swing of both forehand and 1HBH.
But forearm supination during backhand would cause the racket face to close even further, while forearm supination during forehand would cause the racket face to open up.
If so, shouldn't close racket face at the beginning of forward swing in 1HBH cause the racket face to close too much?

Most guys open it up to the sky, and during the swing, end up progressively closing it until contact, at which point it can go either way.
PeterKorda used to sometimes mechanically keep his topspin backhand prep right at vertical racketface, but I think he was one of the very few who did that.

It really depends a lot on the grip you use and the kind of ball you are taking. Guga, Gaudio, Sela and Navarro open up to the sky, but Warinka is rather square/neutral, and many are closed.

I hit both types of shot with my SWBH grip. On certain balls I will actually close the already closed SW face more to get more forearm action thru the ball.
