Do you think that Federer's records are going to broken in next 10 years

I recently heard on ESPN that Brad Gilbert and John Mcenroe that one one will break Federer's record in their lifetime. Do you think that Federer's records are going to broken in next 10-20 years? Right after Pete hung up his racket Federer took over. After Roger hangs up his racket(atleast 4 years later) do you think anyone will get to 23+ grandslam semis, possibly more than 15-20 majors?

You never know. Seeing Pete's record of 14 GS get broken so quickly makes me think that breaking 15 is doable. But if Fed gets to 18 or so then I think that will likely not be broken for LONG LONG time. If he gets #16 here at the AO then I think 18 is very reachable for Roger, maybe even by the end of the year. And then who knows, 20 could be in his sights =)

whoever is going to do it had better start soon if theyre going to win 15 (soon to be 16) majors in 10 years

In 10 years time, I doubt it. There isn't anyone from the current field that can do it, and I really highly doubt that anyone will ever eclipse the 23 consecutive GS Semifinal mark.

Someone might come along and win more slams, but with the way Roger is playing, he might win 1-3 more. If he wins the AO this season, that might carry him on to another major this year alone. If Fed gets to 17-18 majors, that will be another really tough mark to eclipse.

No. Fed's records will not be broken.

As the game gets more demanding pysically, the window of time where a player can dominate gets smaller and smaller, due to injuries and age-related decline.

We won't see such dominance over such a long period again.

It is possible. I don't see it happening as quickly as it did with Federer but it is doable. Court's 24 is still standing in women's tennis, Rogers can still stand. I am still shocked Pete's record was broken.

I think if Graf hadnt gone down with injuries after 96 she would have cruised past Court. She was at 21 and probably would have still won atleast half (so atleast 6) of the slams from 97-99 if she had stayed reasonably healthy. Then again if it were not for the Seles tragedy she might not have gone past 24 even staying healthy to the end of the decade anyway so who knows.

Yes, look at Laver and company. They all have records that Roger has not and will not achieve, so satisticly it has to happen again ie clander grandslam etc.

Just think Roger started really late, what happens when someone combines the strengths of Nadal and Federer, and another weak era?

Maybe somebody could break his GS record but it will take a long time, however nobody will beat his record for most SFs.

So if and when someone wins more Grand Slams than Federer, I'm sure his fans will readily admit that that new GS wonder just HAS to be the greatest player EVER...right? There won't be ANY argument will there that the player is greater than Federer and every other great, correct? Somehow, I don't think so...

Anyway, the chances are that with Nadal's chances seemingly dwindling, it may be at least another 10 years before another champion can make a run for the GS record. If he stayed healthy, he would have been a legitimate threat for that GS record in the years to come, in my opinion.

Yet, who knows, once a new #1 emerges, whenever that is, say after a couple more years, if not sooner, if that player starts racking up slams, the picture can change. You can rarely ever say "never" in life.

Like the perfect wave, the perfect storm or the perfect merlot, Mr Roger Federer is a freak of nature that only comes along once in a very great while.

Hard to believe the 23 GS semis, or better, record will fall anytime soon except perhaps to the aforementioned freak of nature.

What will his final GS total will be? 15 going on ? My guess is he should win at least a couple more GS and finish in the 17 to 20 range for his career. Hard to envision that record being broken as well but look how long Pete's record lasted. Only 7 years? I would have bet against that happening.

Roger is top drawer. How can any tennis fan not manage to appreciate his contribution to the game's history and the beauty of his A game?

I hope Rafa heals up so their rivalry can continue.

It's possible the GS record could be broken someday... possibly even in 10 years, though doubtful.

I really don't think the 23 straight semis (and counting) is EVER going to get broken. That has to be one of the best sports records of all time for sheer consistency's sake and even from an iron man standpoint of not having had to miss 1 GS or pull out with 1 injury/illness. Unreal.

The records that may never get broken, almost impossible

1) Consecutive 5 wins in two different slams.
2) 23 straight major semifinal appearances and counting.
3) 17 finals of 18 majors and counting.

Records which will be very very tough to break, nearly impossible
1) 15 major wins and counting
2) 237 straight weeks at #1.
3) Reaching all slam finals in a year 3 times.*
4) Winning 3 slams in a year 3 times.*
5) Reaching all 4 slam finals 4 times.*
6) Winning 24 consecutive finals
*Good chance this will be improved by Roger

Note: By the time he finishes, he will cross 300 weeks as #1. That will be one hell of a record to break.

The Fed has remained pretty much injury free. He had a months-long recovery after suffering from mono, which I believe cost him a few GSs. The other players are trying so hard to beat him that they are having some huge injury problems. Fed will most likely be around a few years yet, so no one will be able to start a run toward his record, and he'll probably be building on his record. So, I think it will be a very long time before anyone challenges his record, wherever it ends.

I sometimes believed Federer benefitted from the improvements in sports preparedness with the simultaneous decline in American tennis (a big factor in who wins slams). All it takes is for another leap in sports training with a decline in participation. He had yet to see a player with a Sampras like serve and a Nadal speed and shot making. When that happens, the stage will be set for a demoralized field. To say that this is the best tennis we will ever see is dumb.

Everything is possible.I am sure one day someone will surpass this record. But to do it in such a short time may not be possible.Roger's consistency in slams is remarkable.
