Does anyone believe Ferrero can defeat Murray?

I think Tim Henman is an idiot for saying "Ferrero doesn't have the game to beat Murray".

If Wawrinka has the game to almost beat Murray, then Ferrero certainly has the game to beat him.

All the pundits are focussing far too much on the Queen's SF. Ferrero is unlikely to play so poorly this time around. In that match his first serve must have been about 30%. Murray didn't even play that well, Ferrero was just so rubbish.

These are completely different circumstances. Best of 5 sets, Wimbledon Centre Court, and with the experience of playing Murray on grass a few weeks ago.

Murray is definately favourite, but if the Ferrero who sent Agassi crashing out of the 2003 US Open turns up on court, anything can happen. I still believe Ferrero is capable of reaching that level of play.

Wawrinka is a better player than Ferrero right now. We arent in the year 2003.

Soderling beat Nadal at the FO, so what's to say Ferrero a claycourt specialist can't beat a grasscourt player who has almost 0 accomplishments on that surface (apart from that 1 Queens title).

Ferrero and Murray played each other for the first time in their careers at Queen's, in a best of 3 set match.

This will be on Centre Court, best of 5, with the added experience of having played each other before.

Totally different circumstances, despite the surface.

In 1988 Becker destroyed Edberg in the Queen's final, and a few weeks later he was outplayed by Edberg in the Wimbledon final. If we had a forum back then, people would have been saying that Edberg had no chance

All of you weak sisters will be crying when JCF beats Murray on Wednesday. I have absolutely 100% faith that JCF will come through!

Ferrero is no Edberg. Sad to say.

That post wasn't about comparing Murray/Ferrero with Becker/Edberg. It was about the over-emphasis on that result at Queen's.

Idk he was looking very good against mr. simon today. but even if he doesnt do it, i can almost bet my life on it that he will lose Hewitt or Roddick or Fed in the finals.

Everyone expected Murray to destroy Ferrero at Queen's. Edberg at an equal to Becker. It all depended in their matchup who was hotter. But Queen's is a good indicator imo. Just not 100%.

It's not likely, but anyone who says this is a guaranteed, 100% gimme for Murray is an idiot. Ferrero's not going to yield easily.

Yup, somehow a clay court specialist is better than a 5 time winner of Queens and 2 time finalist at Wimbledon.

I honestly can't see Roddick beating Murray, just purely from a matchup perspective. I'd put a lot of money on Murray winning that in straights. I was less confident tonight, simply because Stan can hurt players off both wings when he's on. Roddick can't. That also applies to Federer, who has failed to hurt Murray off the backhand in almost every match. Federer has other attributes to make up for that, though.

I'm not the biggest Roddick fan, but to say Wawrinka is a better grass courter than him is ********.

A lot depends on how JCF is on the day. When he is 100% and in the zone, he is difficult to beat for virtually anyone but lately he has too many ups and downs.

I remember the beginning of his carreer thoug when he was practically unbeatable.

I think those matches with Kuerten at the FO did a lot of mental damage. I felt he was the best claycourter at that time but just bumped into someone who was able to go for it and succeed in it.

JCF cant beat Murray. Roddick or Hewitt can. Too bat they have to eliminate each other in the quarter.

I'm just glad JCF has played well enough to hopefully stave off his year end retirement thoughts. I'm glad he's finally seeing results and he looks so psyched to be winning.

I don't think he can beat Murray but he is not expected to. Just go out there nothing to lose, everything is gravy from here on in, remember you're a grand slam champion and play boldly.

Match-ups get thrown out the window when they step onto the court. We'll see if they do meet.

I'm not so sure.

I've been at both Roddick's 2nd round match, and his 4th round against Berdych today, he's looking very good.

It would be one hell of a semi final if we could get it.

Maybe if he plays well, a set. I don't see him beating Murray though. Still, I'm proud that he has come this far, considering grass used to be his worst surface.

It’s interesting how a player who won Madrid, Hong Kong, Dubai (among the fastest hard surfaces) and was a finalist in Auckland, Cincinnati, Rotterdam, Bangkok, US Open, Sydney, Tennis Master Cup (2002) and Dubai 2000 -- can be casually labeled a “clay court specialist”.

I wonder if how many lesser known “hard court specialists” have a similar record on fast courts.

Wawrinka, by the way, is not a “clay court specialst” either. The term, the way it is used these days by some people here, is mostly a joke

Ferrero is riding somewhat of a confidence wave right now, and I say anything is possible. Ferrero has been at the top of the game before and is also a grand slam champion. Anybody, regardless of their age (within reason) or ranking who has been in that position before is capable of playing at that level again, if only for one match. Reminds me of a cheesy Toby Keith song "I ain't as good as I once was, but Im as good ONCE as I ever was".

I always believe in the fighting spirit of underdogs so I think JCF has a chance.

Nadal_Freak is implying that by saying Wawrinka is a tougher opponent for Murray than Roddick.

He is. Not because he's a better grass court player, but because he is better able to hit through Murray, especially off both wings. Roddick can do it off the forehand when he flattens it out, but not off the backhand. He isn't a better GC player than Roddick, but he's a worse match up for Murray.

ah it bash Murray day again. Murray didnt play that badly. warinka hit the lines for a set and a half.

Karlovic has more chance of serving Federer off the court or haas more chanc eof beating djokovic than Murray losing

Where are Wawrinka's wins against Murray then? Like... one on clay? Roddick has beaten Murray on a few occasions on HCs, and is an excellent grasscourt player. You are SEVERELY underestimating Roddick, especially in the 2nd week. There have been very few players in the last few years to stop Roddick in the 2nd week of a slam, and the only one who's had any consistency at doing it is Federer.

and soderling if a couple of big points went his way had a chance vs fed.

Karlovic if he keeps serving like this has a chance vs fed as does djokovic/haas winner.

Murray beats Ferrero in straights and gets by roddick because he has better ground strokes than roddick

Well a yesterday people were saying he had no shot against Simon, when playing well and not injured he is still a threat. Do not forget he was the only player to beat Nadal on clay last year and dont give me the Nadal was injured because JCF was also injured

Brad and company also predicted that Murray would not lose a set till the semi, that has no been the case

My point is anything is possible JCF has been at the top of the game before and knows what it takes to win

Wawrinka has a better record against Murray. He has 2 wins on hard and one on clay. Roddick has two wins on hard against Murray.

I will be very happy if JCF takes out Murray because I hate his game and his barking. But I doubt that the is anything as a 100% in sports, especially when it comes to JCF taking out Murray on center court in front of 15 thousand screaming Brits.

I'll believe it when I see it.
