does anyone else think federer is better than nadal at the moment?

I think most people would give Nadal more credit for 2013 if he hadn't taken 7 months off the tour to recharge his batteries for it. Still a great year though.

see? this is what i mean. there is a natural hatred towards Nadal mode in you (and many others like you on this forum). you choose to see the 7 months off as a "holiday", while just about everybody else (like Agassi etc.) saw that as a devastating thing to happen to a professional athlete.

He's beaten Nadal more times than anyone other than Djokovic. If we are generous to him we could say the real rivalry ended at 18-10 when afterwards in 2012 Fed was legitimately too old.

I think Fed had 2 games, 2008 W and 2009 Oz. If he'd won at least one of them he would be less damaged. But Nadal beat him in his prime in his own back yard. I don't have a problem with Fed more just some of his fanboys on this site who don't recognize the reality that Nadal is at least as good as Fed, that's why he beats him and everyone else, not some kind of match up issue. Fed himself I actually like and wanted him to win both those games. But he didn't as Nadal was better.

The think why h2h doesn't bother me that much it that off clay it's not loopsided.

Fed after his prime is 2-1 on grass and I think it was something like 8-7 on HC. And 2-2 in GS finals. If they were the same age, Fed would edge out Rafa on HC and grass.

The only problem is clay. Where Fed was 2nd and made all those final losing arguably to the clay coat. So, if you think goat should own everyone on every surface, fine. That means goat has to be almost perfect. But we don't have that player.

The thing is Rafa doesn't own Fed on every surface.

Until such player comes, Fed can still be the best. Goat doesn't mean perfect to me.

Look, I'm biased towards Fed, but still fair. I will re-evaluate this if Rafa gets to 17-19 majors. It would be impossible to call Fed goat at the time. I think they will share this, because debates will go on forever and opinions will be split.

If Rafa gets to 19, that means he will play top level for 3 years. So, he will ad maybe WTF titles, weeks nr.1 or more non clay majors.

I'm just saying what many other people think, it has nothing to do with hatred. Do you really believe that Nadal would've produced such a successful 2013 without having had so much rest and being able to work on certain aspects of his game[mostly to counter Nole on non clay surfaces]? Highly doubtful.

I think you've misunderstood my post. Nowhere did I say that I didn't believe that Nadal was injured but the 7 months he had off the tour undoubtably enabled him to be much fresher when he returned compared to all the other guys that had been slogging their guts out week after week. Are you following me now?

no, i understood you perfectly. you are still choosing to only see the supposed "fun" part of being out for 7 months, while completely ignoring reality. this is a player who went completely without any match practice for 7 months. and its supposed to be a good thing in your book. wow.

Now you're putting words in my mouth. Nowhere did I mention the word "fun" or that his break from the tour was a walk in the park. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one I'm afraid. Have a pleasant evening.

Why the surprise?

Nadal won his warmup event pre AO, Federer was a finalist. Nadal obviously outperformed Federer at the AO by beating him in the semi's. Both won a 500 series and both made a final of a masters. Federer did go further in the second masters but the other title and slam final clearly out way that.

For me federer is better than nadal at the moment. It is just that nadals game doesnt suit federer with his heavy topspin forehand to feds backhand. For example at the WTF last year djokovic beat fed in 3 sets but nadal beat fed in straight sets and then djokovic demolished nadal in straight sets.

but this is just my opinion i want to know what everyone else thinks?

yep, that's true fed still defeats novak, nadal can't win even set.

I'm a huge federer fan... and at the end of the day when the two played this year, Rafa destroyed him in straights... at a major.

That gives the edge to Rafa.

I hope that we are seeing a declining Rafa due to age, health, whatever... I'd love it if he'd quit immediately.

But in lieu of that, if I were a betting man on who would have the more successful season moving forward, i'd still back the butt picker.
