Donating Rackets to Charity

I have three older Head rackets that I don't use any more. Does anyone know of any good charity programs that I could donate them to? I am looking for a program that would hopefully a program that deals with kids, education and tennis.

If so, post the charity's info and site URL below.

That's very generous of you...willing to donate racquets for a good cause. Unfortunately, I have no idea what charities might be able to use those racquets the most efficient way.

The Andy Roddick Foundation website gives info about how to donate cash, but doesn't give info about whether they accept material donations as well.

I'm sure any Fairfax County high school would be willing to accept them for PE classes. When I used to have PE in 10th grade (this was just 3 years ago), there were no modern racquets to choose from, all of them were oldies made of aluminum.

By the way, if you didn't remember me, this is John, the guy from Centreville, VA. Just e-mail me anytime you wanna play tennis because I'm pretty much free everyday from now until I get a summer job. Talk to ya later then.

There's a tennis facility in New Orleans that was destroyed last year by Hurricane Katrina. They provide underprivileged kids in NO with the opportunity to learn tennis.

Here's the thread. It's in the Wanted section.

Susan Hallenus is the Director of the Lundy Foundation and they participate in the "Have a Ball" and "First Serve" tennis programs. Her email address is lundytennis@yahoo.com.

I coordinated a small racquet drive at my club and between friends and the pros we gathered at least 25-30 racquets. We also sent new or gently used tennis clothing so that some of the kids (primarily high school) would have proper tennis attire.

Certainly a worthy cause. :)

Thanks all. Great suggestions! I figure it's better to get these rackets back in play in a youngster's hands instead of gathering dust in my closet.

Hey John.

Yeah we will have to play.

This week is packed though. I got matches tonight and on Thursday. Then I am playing the Joy of Sports Charity Tournament (money goes for a good cause) Friday. I hope I advance. If I don't advance, I might be able to play Sat. I"ll drop you some e-mail if I don't make i through the first round.

Shame on you Andres! I do have some old steroids laying around if you want them. *runs and hides*

Seriously I have at least 10 sticks in decent condition to give away - most need to be strung though.

I felt kind of badly about the stringing...many of the racquets we sent needed to be restrung just to bring them into playable shape. One of my team mates donated the shipping costs which were pretty significant. I wonder if we could hit up Tennis Warehouse to donate string?

Who among us has an inside track to the TW folks?

I think everyone here knows my condition about racquets.
But I could use some of those. If u don't want just to give them away, make me a good prize for them. The stringing isn't a problem. Stringing isn't too expensive here. Racquets, on the other hand, are... and very expensive...

What's your condition about racquets? Just wanted to know.

Hey, James, what's up?
I hope you make it beyond the first round of the charity tournament, and I believe you will :p
This Saturday, I promised my friends that I will play with them...but, why are we worrying about this? You WILL make it further than just first round; therefore, we won't be able to play this Saturday. Hehe. But, I mean, anyday other than that is OK, plus you got my e-mail.

Regarding our friend Andres Guazelli, I stumbled upon a couple threads where he describes his situation, and I know he's speaking the truth because I have lived in Argentina.
You might wanna take a look at this thread for example:

Anyways, tell us later how you did at the tourney.

Hey John,

Played in the Joy of Sports Charity Tournament. I lost (2-6, 4-6) but felt that I represented my self well considering I haven't played a tournment in a few years and just started playing tennis again about three months ago after a 2 year hiatus. I was up against a good opponent and it was fun - we has some good points. I was playing 4.0 mens singles.

Losing wasn't so bad as there was free pizza, other foods and drinks at the pavillion  . I also got to hang out with some other cool tennis players.
