I checked Sampras 's activities in 1997 which can't compare with Fed this year ! how can he earn money more than Fed ? :?

Grand Slam Cup was run by ITF as a rival to ATP World Championships. It became confusing for fans and many players were skipping it despite the big pay day. So in 1999 ATP and ITF resolved their differences to form one competition.

Which is now called the Masters Cup.

I had been wondering about this, and I was sure Fed was having the biggest earning year in tennis history, but it looks like sampras made a little more that year. I wonder which tournies he won? I think Qatar pays $1M to the winner...

Someone already said it. There was a Grand Slam Cup in 1997 where the winner won $2 million. Qatar gave apperance fee, but the prize money is always in-line with other similar tournaments.
