After Federer stormed through the 2010 US Open draw and didn't lose a set en route to the semifinals, many tennis analysts predicted that he would win his semifinal and play Nadal in the final.

This was the 6th Grand Slam that he had not lost a set before the semifinals. He also achieved this at the 05 Australian Open, 05 French Open, 06 Wimbledon, 07 Australian Open, and 08 Wimbledon.

In the 06 Wimbledon and 07 Australian Open, Federer went on to win the tournament. In the 05 Australian Open and 05 French Open, he lost in the semifinals. In the 08 Wimbledon, he lost in the final.

Interestingly, Nadal has also achieved this at 6 Grand Slams. He achieved this at the 07 French Open, 08 Australian Open, 08 French Open, 09 Australian Open, 10 French Open, and 10 US Open. Nadal won all of these Grand Slams except the 08 Australian Open.

Borg achieved this at 6 Grand Slams. He achieved this at the 75 French Open, 76 Wimbledon, 78 French Open, 80 French Open, 81 French Open, and 81 Wimbledon. Borg won all of these except the 81 Wimbledon.

In Sampras' entire career, he only achieved this at 2 Grand Slams. He achieved this at the 94 and 98 Wimbledons. He won both Grand Slams.

interesting, what does this tell us about Federer?? i think maybe Federer went into his semifinals full of confidence since he didn't lose any sets and when he faced the unexpected challenge he did not know how to solve it? lol

my tennis analysis skills are terrible

You could say in a way having at least one reasonably tough match say a 4 or 5 setter would help more in the longer run in a tournament just for more match play and feel in a tough situation, not so long and tough that there utterley exhausted but just a toughish match, for example fed-andreev in the 1st round of tha AO, this kinda helped him i think getting through davy in the quarters, i mean if u win a tournament without dropping a set thats just incredible like nadal at the french 08 and fed at the AO 07, they just couldn't be touched in those tournaments.
