I don't think it is the case though. If you buy tickets for, say, Cinci semi-final then that's what your tickets are for. It's not Cinci's fault if your preferred players don't make it. In this case it appears that the ATP sold tickets SPECIFICALLY for Switzerland matches at an inflated price and are now dragging their heels over refunds even though Switzerland are not playing.I could be wrong, but is this not the same thing as Cincy selling tickets for Rafa and Fed, and if they both pull out then no refunds right?
There have been times I have paid heavy for IW or Canada tickets thinking someone was going to play and they did not.
It happens. He could have got injured too. Maybe it's not the same, but seems like they have the right to say no refunds.
Yes, it is odd, and I said that when the news first broke, but @ABCD is right, it sounds like some are saying Fed knew this was the plan and went along with it knowing he was never going to play.I don't think it is the case though. Like I said earlier, we need to be honest with ourselves. If this was Nadal a lot of people here would be saying very different things to what they are now.

None of us want to believe it, but we are relying on our belief in Federer's integrity here. Normally when we're refuting anti-Fed stuff, like Roofgate, we're pointing out the implausibilities and the illogicalities of the opponents' case.Yes, it is odd, and I said that when the news first broke, but @ABCD is right, it sounds like some are saying Fed knew this was the plan and went along with it knowing he was never going to play.
I have issue with that, as I do not believe Fed would, did, or even thought it through. I think he simply pulled the trigger on committing to ATP Cup before he was ready.
If he wanted to deliberately hose the paying fans, he would have withdrawn in the last minute, thus not giving any chance for the fans to recuperate their losses, so your little theory goes up in flames.
Also, you don't know how he is traveling to his exos. He might be with his family and do tourism, or he can be having business plans for which he needs to be where he is going. Speaking of his plans as you know anything and judging him from there is laughable, let alone framing this whole thing with that.
I just see it differently. I see it as a simple change in plans 3 months in advance. Why? Family like he said, or other reasons (many are plausible), but essentially saying "corruption" and "fraud" of his fans seems harsh, and very unlikely.None of us want to believe it, but we are relying on our belief in Federer's integrity here. In this case, if you're an anti-Fedder, saying that he agreed to play the tournament to get ATP support for the Laver Cup but didn't have any intention of playing it is, unfortunately, perfectly logical. If he wants more time with his family why did he agree to play the South American exhibitions and in China? Why ditch the ATP Tour which you would think fit quite well as an AO warm-up?
@Rogfan is perfectly entitled to question this.

Put Nadal's name in place of Federer's and see if you feel the same.It is not logical, and I explained why. Twice.

How does a Fed fan get banned from the Federer News thread?Haven't posted in Casa de GOAT recently.
Fed's GOAT, folks!
To outright trolls and pseudo-trolls, alike: You got @Tennis_Hands banned from the thread. Now one of the most informed (and informative) of Federer fans no longer has privileges to post here.
Kudos all around!
Expand? @Tennis_Hands go banned for not wanting to get into the politics? He was the one trying to get people to stay away from the topic.Haven't posted in Casa de GOAT recently.

The GCYGS... don't forget LC.All he needed to do was win Cincy and he would have completed the REAL CYGS:
Dubai-Halle-Cincy-Basel
And HC.The GCYGS... don't forget LC.
It takes a special level of skillHow does a Fed fan get banned from the Federer News thread?
Fed should go 2-1 in his group and finish second, thus playing the top guy of the other group for a spot in the finals. I don't expect him to beat Djokovic in either the RR or final, however. So, Djokovic, Berrettini and Thiem. What do you guys think?

It is happening. Fed will win WTF. I just have a feeling, and I think Fed is due a win over Djoker. Dont think Rafa makes it to SF (withdrawal or form).Fed should go 2-1 in his group and finish second, thus playing the top guy of the other group for a spot in the finals. He was in top form in the Wimbledon final this year and still lost due to mental demons. He was in superlative form in the 2015 USO and Wimbledon final and wasn't able to cross the finish line for the same reasons. I call it as I see it, no sugarcoating. As is usually the case, Fed's form will dictate his chances. Top form? Can't see anyone in the tournament who will stop him. Decent form? Could still win it.
Yes, he is not and should not be favored. But if he brings his best tennis in a final verse Djoker, he can beat him. With best of 3, I honestly see Fed beating him if Fed plays his best.He was in top form in the Wimbledon final this year and still lost due to mental demons. He was in superlative form in the 2015 USO and Wimbledon final and wasn't able to cross the finish line for the same reasons. I call it as I see it, no sugarcoating.
Meh. Give me 40-15 again and I know where my money is. Let's see if lightning strikes again. He was in top form in the Wimbledon final this year and still lost due to mental demons. He was in superlative form in the 2015 USO and Wimbledon final and wasn't able to cross the finish line for the same reasons. I call it as I see it, no sugarcoating.
He was in mediocre form in the Wimby15 final. 40 % of 2015 semi-final Fed showed up for the final and still took a set off of super peak Djoker. He was in top form in the Wimbledon final this year and still lost due to mental demons. He was in superlative form in the 2015 USO and Wimbledon final and wasn't able to cross the finish line for the same reasons. I call it as I see it, no sugarcoating.
Indeed. Really when I mention form I basically mean level. If Fed's level is tip top throughout the matches that need it, no one stops him. An unlikely event, of course.Yes, he is not and should not be favored. But if he brings his best tennis in a final verse Djoker, he can beat him. With best of 3, I honestly see Fed beating him if Fed plays his best.
Unlikely, yes, but possible. If he brings Basel level, I do think he will win it.Indeed. Really when I mention form I basically mean level. If Fed's level is tip top throughout the matches that need it, no one stops him. An unlikely event, of course.
Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.It is happening. Fed will win WTF. I just have a feeling, and I think Fed is due a win over Djoker. Dont think Rafa makes it to SF (withdrawal or form).
His semifinal against Murray was the greatest form he'd shown since 2012 at that time. He went into the Wimbledon final in devastating form and nobody can argue that who actually remembers 2015. His form instantly became trash in the final after he was broken-- mental demons, as previously mentioned. His serving in the semis was one of his most devastating serving performances of his career, yet he served mediocre in the final. He was in mediocre form in the Wimby15 final in 2015.
