Federer owning nadal now?

Federer won the last 5 matches against Nadal including a slam final. Has Nadal lost his scare for Federer?

Is Federer maybe actually getting into Nadal's head now?

No. Federer is enjoying the match up at this point in their careers, and has a clear advantage on HC now, but if those five matches had happened on clay instead, nobody would be saying that Federer owns Nadal.

I think at the tail end of last year, before Nadal left the tour for injury reasons, he was playing the better of the 2.
As of now, ive no idea. Id probably favour Fed right now in Australia, but it all depends on their respective forms over the next couple of matches.
If Nadal can get that form going he had over Wimbledon, and if Fed cant up his level from last year, then Nadal should be all over him.

Federer is not "in his head", just like Nadal wasn't in Federer’s, as one other delusional group of people claims.

They make the most of the available, and if something gives one of them the edge, it is not that.

As for the future, some people do not realise how amazing it is that Federer at 37.5 years old is still considered serious opposition for ATGs 5-6 years his juniors.

This might be the biggest compliment Federer ever received in his career.

Finally someone else who thinks this. The whole 'mental issue' that Federer had V Nadal was nonsense. And its the same now, Nadal wont be 'mentally damaged' facing Fed in the SF here, if it happens.
Regardless of their previous results against each other, you can bet theyre both going out their to take 'revenge' on that last defeat.
Theyre not going to be shivering in their boots at the prospect of facing each other.
Sports champions do not have that mindset. That's the reason they are where they are.

Of the last 5 matches, we have:

Basel 2015 - Fed wins 6-3 5-7 6-3
AO 2017 - Fed wins 6-4 3-6 6-1 3-6 6-3
IW 2017 - Fed wins 6-2 6-3
Mia 2017 - Fed wins 6-3 6-4
Sha 2017 - Fed wins 6-4 6-3

The first one was 2015, where Federer was in the better form. It was at Fed's best tournament on Nadal's worst surface. Fed needed 3 sets. He did say this match gave him confidence going forward though
AO was a close match but Fed was in the better form. Fed was clutch but Nadal didn't exactly fold. fed hit something like 23 winners in the last set. he was just too good
The next 3 are all tournaments where Federer has been more successful historically. it's not that surprising that he won

Because of the decline in Nadal's baseline game, Federer isn't as vulnerable to him anymore. I do think Fed has excised some of his Nadal demons but I don't think he's in Nadal's head. If they played on clay, Nadal would almost certainly win. Furthermore, they've not played in 15 months. We really don't know what'll happen next time they meet

Don't know who should be the favourite if they were to meet in the SF.

It shouldn't be Federer. He's 37.5 years old, and his opponent is an ATG 5 years his junior.

But it shouldn't be Nadal. He's lost the past 5 matches against Roger, all on HC.

But that was in 2017, and Nadal's form in 2018 was better than Federer's.

It'd just be nice to get another slam Fedal match tbh. We should take them when we can get them.

I think we will solve our doubts if there is a SF between them here. Federer has only won 1 Grand Slam match against Nadal since 2007, I am not sure whether his recent victories over Nadal in Masters 1000 means he is the favorite over Nadal in Grand Slams.

We will solve our doubts after the SF! If Federer defeats Nadal here, I will consider him favorite in the matchup against Nadal at the Australian Open from now on. Not in the US Open though, since it is a slower hard court.

Keep in mind that Nadal wouldn't have beaten Federer in any kind of match in five years should they meet in the semis. That is a long time in tennis years.

Would've been at least 23-15 to Federer if you reversed their ages. Nadal relied on prime tennis to beat Federer so much that the minute he got out of it he couldn't even handle a mid 30s Fed. Last 3 matches were murder.

I think the period 06-09 will be what history remembers of their h2h. And I'm a Fed fan. Would have loved to have seen Fed try the 2017 return against Nads in that period, instead of the harmless chip.

I don't think that you understand history, and that you understand tennis.

The H2H will not play any significant role in the way the history remembers those players, let alone specific part of it, and Federer couldn't have "tried" what you suggest with his old racquet.

BTW, you spelled "possibly the greatest ownage of a much older ATG of another ATG" wrongly as "chip".

I am sure that that will be quite the consolation, being a Federer fan and all.

Wow, thanks for reminding me not to attempt nuanced criticism on this forum. Back to the former pro section....

Sorry but its a slam and in last 10 years Federer has won only 1 slam meeting against him so i won't give edge to Fed. bo3 means nothing you can ask Murray he enjoyed match up against Fed till 2010 but it meant nothing in slam meeting. untill Fed defeat Nadal again in slam i'm not buying 'Fed having an edge'

You don't need to buy cause I ain't selling.

Just making a point it has been five long years since Nadal had any sort of win over Federer.

Word on the street tells me that Roger Federer currently sees Novak Djokovic under his bed at night. No sightings of Rafa Nadal for a while now.

Because Federer has only faced Nadal once in Grand Slams in the last 5 years. Since 2008, they have faced each other 7 times in Majors. Nadal leads 6-1 Federer in Grand Slams since 2008.

Same with your 10 years comment. Nadal actually owned the slam H2H from RG 2008 to AO 2014. That is 7 seasons, not 10 the way you are presenting. Federer also could not play Nadal in 2015 in slams, or AO 2016 when Nadal was vulnerable.

We're talking about slam and facts say something else. bo3 mean nothing so bringing bo3 to make an argument in slam meeting is ridiculous. It's slam and here Nadal bring his best in later stages and noone better than Fed know it. 1 win in last 10 years and that too was after being down in the fifth and you're trying to prove he has match up advantange against Nadal in bo5?lol

Where did I say that? Did you read my first post in this thread or is just mentioning the name Federer making you see red?

Federer must keep his serve at tip top condition, keep that flat backhand and use his forehand to seize on any short ball Nadal provides.

If/When they play each other, Federer must say to himself "if it ain't broke why fix it?"

Untestable claim, thus irrelevant. Untestable claims should never be accepted in serious tennis discussions. Also, non-prime Nadal has defeated prime Federer (Miami 2004, Roland Garros 2005, Doha 2006, etc.) so your assumption is 100% speculative.
Beating a sick or injured Federer doesn't count. And Nadal was 10x more in his clay prime in 2005 than he is today.

Nadal isn't getting to semifinal.

Have a feeling their last meeting will be USO quarter this year or next.

Funny thing is it became 15 only in older days of Fed still Fedfans bring age argument when Nadal was beating Fed when he was in bis diaper lol
