Federer says the courts are slow

Watching tennis at the moment because of the Fedr brand of tennis. Slow court ping pong is not my cup of tea.

As long as Fed keeps winning with these FH shanks, I just don't care about the court speed.

All courts seem to become slower and slower all over the tour during the years. I don’t think it’s only because of Rafa though. Also because serve boting doesn’t bring tv viewers.

Rating are actually really low now for tennis. If people wanted to see slow court tennis, ESPN most likely wouldnt of dropped their french open coverage

I think if Nadal said the court was orange, many posters on here would jump to agree and hold Nadal's statement up as proof it is orange.

Some dont know what they are lookng at and need others to tell them.

Fed is like Wilt, 90% of the rule changes were made to bring them back to the field.

Now that the Big 3 are all past their primes, faster courts would cause them to be frequently upset. I don't see the tourney directors liking that. $

Do people actually believe this nonsense? Tournament directors change rules so the most popular player will lose because they what - hate money?

Former Paris TD: I told myself Roger Federer must win before I leave my job

Caujolle contacted Federer's team to ask why Federer was skipping Paris -- who revealed that the Swiss didn't like the surface used at that time. The Paris Masters made some changes with its surface as Federer returned to the tournament in 2007.

I wonder when the tournament is going to be run by an Australian again. Might not make a difference, I just associate South Africans with dodginess. Tiley probably has a vested interest in GreenSet.

So why are they making the courts slower then?
This is kind of out there but it may be because of the wta (they already use different balls to make more ralleys).

I think the fastest courts are the mens only events. Wtf, paris, shanghi and one more im forgetting. I think the women play at a different location for those events.

Sounds strange they would do that for WTA. Womens tennis is less popular.

What I want to know is where are the announcers ripping the tournament for this. Where is Martina, JMac, Shriver etc.? I don’t here them saying anything at all. Tonight Martina mentioned in passing the slow courts as one reason Serena lost. But she spent very little time on it. Blows my mind that every slam surface is now SLOW and nobody seems to care. Why did AO add more sand in the paint? Why are they using balls that fluff up more in use? Can’t we have one slam that rewards aggressive players and players who come to net? Does every slam have to be for the grinders and baseline ball bashers?
People generally like to watch rallies, and not boring service fests, that's why... There could be one fast slam, but no slam want to shoot in its foot, so they give peoplecwhat they want...
Other thing is hard core Fed fans who care only about his favourite player and him winning...

I tried to say the USO courts were slow too. I was mocked because of it. Most said courts were fast, some long time posters even used the word “lightening fast”
Lol
Don’t take what people here saying seriously. Trust the players. Casper Ruud said AO courts were slower and had a higher bounce compared to last year. I trust what players that plays the court says the most in these issues.
Casper played only one match so cant say that courts are slower than last year...
Also some Australians dared to cheer for Millman. Total injustice.
Yes, it was creepy when Fed said in on court interview he will forgive them (not that words but in that style, maybe he said no hard feelings) ...

So you have to play exactly 2 matches before you can say what you think about the court speed?
Even after a set, after 2 games, one can have a clear opinion about the court speed imo. It’s their job and they play tennis every day. Of course they know.

Millman also commented on crowd not supporting him. Not directly, but he said "some of them got behind me".
Feels bad to not get support in your own country:confused:

Courts are slower in the evening and weather is pretty cool even during the day. Courts always get quicker as the tournament goes on.
Last time when Federer said courts are to his satisfaction he got routined by Rublev in Cincy. Also complained about court speed in USO last year when Nagal/Dzumhur played him tough in the evening, but then courts got magically quick when he whipped Evans during the day. ;)

When poly came out the ATP should have band it or make surfaces smoother to reduce its effect. Poly has caused more issues than slight slow downs.

He has his excuses ready. Age and court speed to hide his inferiority against his main rivals.

I joked about courts, in plural... He played one match on one court and courts are not exactly the same... I know he surely practiced on multople courts, but angain it was a joke...

The elephant in the room:
The ATP definitely does not want Federer to keep his GS record, nor any record.

Why do you think that ATP does not want Federer to keep his GS record?

Because they didn't want people like you out of your daily job (here). If the conditions were not moving towards abominable there wouldn't have been a Major race right now, and Major race is what keeps selling and keeps giving you the courage to do your performances. Without it you would be out (and by "you" I mean all of you). I hope that that answer helps.

He said he doesn't take it personally, that it's nice and that Millman deserves all the support finishing on "you've given me more than you have to" and that he appreciates everybody coming to see him.

So creepy...

Because no-one is actually interested in tennis, people just want to follow an idol. I think it stems from the social media generation, people want to belong to a group.

If Federer's records aren't broken, the chain of idol worship is broken .. and along with it goes a whole bunch of fans who follow stats and slam counts rather than tennis.

I think you better wonder why you're wasting your time trying to badmouth the lovely Federer.

Excellent point. The moment Novak or Nadal retires, most of their fan bases here will disappear. They are fans of one player and not tennis fans, as their mass collective ignorance about past ATG's eloquently shows. They had no favorite player in the past because they never watched tennis before 2015 or thereabouts.
