It's a real shame when players desperate for a slice o' glory try to cheat a 40-year-old.
The 20-time grand slam champion was left fuming in the second set when he was handed a time violation for taking too long in between points.
Federer had a fiery argument with chair umpire Emmanuel Joseph and even dragged Cilic into his rant.
"Marin, am I playing too slow?" Federer asked, to which Cilic responded he was.
Aren't you the poster that claimed to be playing at an inferior level because it dissuades people from playing tennis because they know you are too good?Guy getting desperate knowing his Slam count is about to be broken
Nadal already informed the organizers this umpire will be on his black list.Federer said "oh no, no, you will not group me in with those other two..." I essentially think that's why he couldn't let that one go. You were too slow and it's ok. It's just one time.
100%. This was a stain to his ego. He cannot stand being compared to those two slowpokes.Federer said "oh no, no, you will not group me in with those other two..." I essentially think that's why he couldn't let that one go. You were too slow and it's ok. It's just one time.

He said Cilic was bouncing the ball which should be sufficient time to towel off and do something for Mirka.
When I read this quote from him yesterday, I laughed my ass off...
"When he puts his foot down ready for the serve he's not ready for the serve, there's still ten bounces. I feel like start bouncing, and I'll rock up ready to return when you're ready to serve.'
He said that?
Herer's the whole 3 minutesHe said that?
He's right, though, isn't he? Drives me nuts, I tell ya!When I read this quote from him yesterday, I laughed my ass off...

What about "I'm not in the mood to stand there and just be his b**ch" at 6:41?:When I read this quote from him yesterday, I laughed my ass off...

As I said on the match thread, Roger has a history of gamesmanship when things are going against him but it was sad to see him reduced to blatantly behaving like this to make up for his fading speed and skills.
it would be better if he retired gracefully rather than go out bickering with umpires.
The guy is 40 and has been semi retired for 8 years. Let him be slow between points.
No. Rafa is not Fed's buddy.Nadal already informed the organizers this umpire will be on his black list.
It is okay, the clown backed down once Fed said "I know the rules." He realized who he was dealing with and smartly backed off.

Brilliant, just thought of another thread based off thisIt is okay, the clown backed down once Fed said "I know the rules." He realized who he was dealing with and smartly backed off.
Cilic seemed like a decent bloke, all things considered. Bit surprising—to me at least. It is okay, the clown backed down once Fed said "I know the rules." He realized who he was dealing with and smartly backed off.
@FedFosterWallace
Fed's action falls into the category of gamesmanship.
Where does steroid use fall in that category?@FedFosterWallace

That's precious. Over the course of his career Nadal probably has thousands of time-wasting violations and has only been warned a few times. And he doesn't do it because he is OCD. It's deliberate and it works.@FedFosterWallace

No, that’s Nadal’s privilege. The guy is 40 and has been semi retired for 8 years. Let him be slow between points.
I don’t like the way Cilic bounces the balls. He said Cilic was bouncing the ball which should be sufficient time to towel off and do something for Mirka.
I was not thinking Fed was right on this one, until I read your post.Federer is losing it. I think middle-age is getting to him. Not too long before he starts crashing his car into a tree, with Mirka chasing him with a tennis racquet.
* on the list of umpires who don't like good tennis.Nadal already informed the organizers this umpire will be on his black list.
If that is the case the why should the server show the ball to the receiver at the start of sets? The server should just start bouncing the ball and the receiver will know that he is about to serve. When I read this quote from him yesterday, I laughed my ass off...
