Federer's racket...pics!

Brad Gilbert has said over and over again that it's a 98 s.i. frame. If he's wrong, then he should have been corrected, since it's live TV. Fed's entire marketing team are watching every broadcast, they'd jump on BG like a dog in heat if he had the wrong information.

I think it's safe to assume it is truly 98 s.i.
Maybe Wilson wants to market it as a 98 so they want people to talk it up as a 98 even though it's actually a 95? Taking a page out of Head's marketing?

The racquet was strung on Wednesday at a tension of 26.5 kg, which is 58.3 lbs. That is indeed about 11 lbs tighter than Federer used to string his PS90 at.

higher the tension, more the control. can you really notice 0.5 kg in tension difference ?? LOL

I just saw footage of Federer walking to a practise session , and his trainer was holding his racquets with the new Pro Staff paint jobs. Maybe he will play his semi with the paint jobs. Wilson should have done this sooner. Maybe they would've shifted a few more units.

1. He is kinda part of Wilson marketing team.

2. He is no where near GOAT, IMHO.

Who would be closer to GOAT? I think Federer is as good as it gets, but Sampras and Lendl were pretty good in the era where there were some other great players.

That racket in the large pic looks nearly identical to my head microgel mp 98(actual 95 sq in) with a 16 x 19 string pattern, and a small pws. So, yeah, he is using Djokovic's frame with a black paint job! Soon everyone will just use the frame Thomas Muster and Head created many years ago and call it a day! haha

This was custom-built for Roger by Wilson. It is made from a mixture of graphene mixed with actual DNA taken from Roger himself and from Rod Laver. It is not available to the public.

All I know is Wilson is going to sell a boatload of them once they release it. I don't even play Wilsons any more, and I'm good for three of them just in case.

only the mains in 58 the crosses 2 pounds less
quite a big difference considering mains are natural gut and crosses are poly. If you were stringing full poly I'd imagine the cross difference would be 5-6 lbs less than the mains. I've seen lots of pros do that with full poly. I think Dolgopolov is something like 55 mains and 50 crosses

C'mon Wilson ! Wake Up !! I want to buy three or four frames !! I can't wait .....

That's what I'm thinking. I've always wanted the perimeter weighting system on something bigger than a 95. A nice heavy 98 sq" with good plow through and a leather grip? yes please. Hopefully it's nice and firm too 64+ stiffness would be nice.

If this racket even releases, the earliest it would go public is mid 2015. It seems like people keep on asking when it will release lol.. Some people need to remember development time, prototypes, and then production and all that good stuff.

I do not think so. Remember that is a similar racquet, not Federer racquet. I believe in until US Open 2014 ...........

I don't think Wilson waits till 2015 to get that out to us. You're talking about millions of dollars on the table in getting a product into the hands of one of the most recognizable athletes in the world. I think there is a mad rush to get that stick finalized and come up with a name and a cosmetic. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out very soon.

Like I said, unless Wilson has been developing this racket for past yr or yr and a half,it is physically impossible for a company to launch an entire product in less than 10 months.
New product cycles are done well in advance, for ex.;Nike's footwear and apparel are usually finalized about 1-2 years in advanced. Add in that they are produced about 6-8 months before release.thats quite a long time.

The answer? A slightly bigger headsize with a simliar layout that gives the same amount of feel without a two year warranty, customized in a lighter package, in a more forgiving frame--thought high in SW--that makes tennis easier for the Federer. Tension changes are expected, though Fed fans like myself will demand an exact retail replica.

Stick a few 4" strips at 3/9 position on a Blade98 and BAMMM, you have PWS.

That's what players with Head frames do - lead tape. The disadvantage of PWS is if you don't want it. Of course the vast majority don't mod their frames so it's good if you want it and don't want to customize.

frankly i'd wait. if he gets his a55 handed to him this season, not likely to be a big seller. wait and see...if he crushes it this year, you 'finally' release to the public in a few months' time and go from there.

I honestly don't think Federers record this year affects his marketability as an athlete or brand spokesperson. If the racket is halfway decent it will sell. He could put his name on anything tennis related and sell the crap out of it. His marketing team is phenomenal.

Huh? All I said is that the frame looks more boxy in these pics than in the previous pics, which it does. (More like the box beam he had with his 90.)
