Fed's Racket Head Size

Do you guys think Federer should move to a larger head size? It might help him with is backhand. Maybe even try a two hander for a match or two to see if he likes it. Would be interested in your thoughts.

stupid discussion. the racket he uses has won him 16 GS titles and countless of other titles.

dont think a two hander will help him because he will take up too much time learning how to use it well. his one handed backhand is underrated because of its abuse by nadal. its really pretty damn good.

No, but who cares what we think really, I mean if he chose to go off the opinons of others, I don't think he would have the success he has had in the first place. Don't you think as a former #1 tennis player, he should be able to make a simple decision over which head size suits him the best?

Yes and he should serve underhand serves only.
That way the game will open up a bit. Not.

The guys doing quite well as it is. I sure dont think he would benefit from a racket thats new to his unique swing and timing.

Too late in his career to make any major adjustments such as those, it would only result in epic fail. Would be cool to see Fed play with a 2hander though.

He should switch to Babolat Pure Drive OS, with a 4 1/8 gripsize, and get it extended to 29". after, he will switch to two handed forehands, backhands, and volleys, and also a volleyball esc serve.

But seriously

285 wks at #1
6 wimbledons
1 FO
5 USO
4 AO
17 MS titles.

Yeah, his career is ****. he needs the above mentioned frame.

Yeah, and everybody who's using a 100+ sq inch headsize is doing better than he is...

I think he could definitely try to increase the headsize (just by a few mm) and decrease the weight (again by a few grams) to see if it makes things easier. I am not talking about any abrupt switches from 90 to 95 inches (this would be insane) but about gradually moving from 90 to, say 92 in 0.05 inch increments (or whatever increaments are possible without ruining his groove).

As players age, their timing and agility suffer, so they could benefit from slightly different rackets compared to what they played with 10 years ago.

a larger racket headsize didn't help Roddick beat Fed, why would one help Fed beat Roddick?

Out of curiosity, have you ever hit with a K-SIX One 90 that has the champions choice string in them? When you string a K90 like this, it makes the sweet spot much larger and seems to add easy access to power and spin. Another member reported similar findings in one of the pro player gear threads.

I theenk rodguer shuld male switchings to bigger racket of the appendagesize 150", makes him better player. I also thinksibg that rodgEuir shude use three handed spinehand, makes him more sexible and moar better when stretching to reached the fuzzyball.
So in other words, no.

seriously, Federer doesn't need to switch. He's won 16 majors with a 90" and a 1hbh, who are any of us to tell him what will work for him?

How many players have won 10+ grand slams PERIOD?
Regardless of 1hbh or 2hb.
The list is short.

P.S.- Somebody said...'this is the stupidest thread I have ever read and that's saying something'...... My sentiments exactly.

Though I don't know him personally... some guy named Borg had 11.

Another interesting tidbit... Federer is the only one hander to win a Grand Slam on three different surfaces... Connors, Wilander, Agassi and Nadal were the others... all two handers...

Ridiculous thread BTW...

I was going to say something rude, but instead....

Lendl had a larger racket for Wimbledon, and tried to serve an volley against Cash, when he could have/should have/would have beaten him from the baseline with a standard frame.

Go with what you know.

One of Fed's big weapons is high precision, so if he switched to a bigger frame - he would lose some control. I switched from Wilson K 95 to BLX 90 and I have a lot more control, even though it's harder to play with.

You might want to do a search first. There have been a million threads on this and this topic has been discussed to death.

And, no, a larger racquet would make his backhand WORSE! And why would he want to try a two-handed backhand when most Grand Slams have been won with one-handed backhands?

If Fed wants to win one more Slam, he needs to switch to a bigger head racquet
And if Roddick or Djokovic wants to win one more Slam, they both need to switch to a smaller racquet. Same with Murray and Soderling and Davydenko if they want to win even a single Slam at all. :)

Well my thoughts are that you and a few others should move to a larger head.

Maybe if he cut his hair his head would look bigger, without actually having to go thru any surgery. I guess a smaller bandanna would work as well.

It's not Federer who needs to change racket. The rest of the tour needs to switch from their granny midplus to mids.
