Some reason I can't serve as well at night.
for serve & overheads, dark sky/background seems to change my depth perception... one trick is to keep my left hand up longer to use as reference (like a painters thumb)... it's also the "right way" to hit serves and OH's... at least 1 server in the vid drops his left hand too fast (common at all rec levels IMO).

I was. I did a frame by frame check. Funny thing was it was a 2nd serve so it's not going all that fast!
Maybe 40+ eyesight in the night is not as good ;)
3.5 == lines are out
my personal (stupid) rationalization used to go something like this... no way he meant that, it was an accident, so you don't deserve it, therefore it was out (let me save you from taking credit for something you didn't mean to do... your welcome).

u have a great looking serve for 3.5. once u have better control of it youll move up fast. Have more confidence and try to get a net game would be my only advice. great serve with a net game
youll be unstoppable at doubles.

I also get T-rex arms when playing matches. Hopefully as I play more matches I won't be as tense.

I'm in blue with no hat.

You are definitely the better player on court. A little bit of clean-up on UE's and getting that serve in and you are good.

Thanks for posting.

For background I was bumped this year to 3.5. Last year I was in state 3.0 40+ and didn't drop a set. I admit I don't play very well in doubles yet.
I find it difficult to pick shots and end up worrying too much about 2 people on the other side. It's like I keep thinking to hitting the shot to avoid the front guy and then end up hitting a MEH shot (T-rex armed). In singles I have SOOOO much more time options!
I have to somehow transfer my practice match strokes to actual match play.
Also this was line 4.

I'll try to see if I can get a singles game taped. I'm hoping it will be better than this.

Really? I saw it out! It was too flat.
You are right. There was another serve later that was a 2nd serve that was CLEARLY inside the box and the partner just lifted his finger to call it out but everyone stopped except me. I messed up the shot after I noticed that no one was moving :\

I'll keep posting them up every now and then. I do hope to get better but with a 3 year old and 5 year old it's tough to find time to practice :)

Your serve is a big weapon; you will win many free points with in. In addition, you'll get a lot of weak returns that your net partner should be able to attack.

Try not to worry about the net man too much: if your focus shifts, let alone your vision, you're distracted from the main goal: making clean contact.

Besides, at this level you will rarely run into a hyperactive net man that is poaching left and right [if you do, you have to go DTL at least a few times to make him aware that you can hit the shot]; you're better off concentrating on your CC shot.

It's a lot harder volleying at night with poor lighting, dunno about serving
