partly due to some positive feedback that I received on here, I found the guts to go to a recording studio when an opportunity arose. Thanks for the help.

here's just a clip of the unfinished song--hasn't been mixed or fully edited. I had the privilege of singing a song for my friend's CD (he's a pianist and has a few albums out already). I must say I was quite impressed with the equipment there...pro tools is awesome and the guy was able to piece together many different recordings and make one good recording. The software was able to smooth out any rough patches or change the pitch a little if I was too flat in some areas...amazing..... So that was how Ashlee Simpson recorded an album!!! Makes me really wonder about some of the artists out there..

I wasn't able to hit that last high note consistently, until I realized I wasn't using my diaphram...haha... anyway, I may be able to hit a half step higher...but a true tenor should be able to hit a high C I believe....so I'm sorta stuck in the middle :x

Here is the post from a year or so ago? http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=188941

has another clip that started it all and a video of me singing in more of an opera style voice -_-

And I should give the most credit to my friend who gave me the opportunity... www.matthewtavisjohnson.com - he wrote the music and lyrics for this song--he writes amazing piano pieces. Also on iTunes -_-

You're not supposed to tell us that; you're supposed to say that you nailed it on the first take.

Pro Tools is the dirty little secret of the music industry. People with absolutely no ability can now sound like stars in a recording studio. Meanwhile, some guy who's really talented performs for peanuts on Friday night at the Holiday Inn, and nobody's listening.

heh, well i can at least say that i hit the note without help of pro tools -_- I will admit that on some takes my voice was tired or lazy so some flat spots were fixed, etc.

No wonder most recording artists look like movie stars too...oh yeah, they can have plastic surgery for that too >_<

Sounds good. You're very brave.

Advice, if you care to have it: on words like "round (you)" and "where (to)," don't stomp on them so heavily with your voice. Matt may have asked for that, in which case you did great. But, in general it's best to ease up to notes instead of pinching off your throat and over-emphasizing them.

thanks, i think some of this has to do with mixing, but i also feel the first part of this recording sounds pretty mumbled. My friend ran out of funds, so I'm gonna pay to have it completed--hehe. will probably cost a half an hour or so worth of studio time. Yeah, my friend definitely had his own idea of what the song should sound like - the Anymo-or-eee at the end sounds too fancy and like it doesn't fit to me...also comes in a tiny bit late, so that has to be fixed.

i don't plan on running with this for a career in singing, nor do i plan on profiting from this song at all. i was just happy to have the chance to do it. maaaaybe if i ever have money for plastic surgery and liposuction, i can start thinking about becoming made into the first asian sensation in america. haha

Wasn't a fan. Almost put me to sleep, although those high notes woke me up (not in a good way).

thanks, i realize it's nothing special...my voice is just decent. not even something i'd want to hear on the radio. lol

Meh - Pro Tools can only do so much. It's much more convenient than tape, but a great song and a great performance will always trump digital trinkets. Having worked extensively in Pro Tools, I find it to be extremely useful as a DAW, but it isn't going to make a bad performance into something amazing.

Lakoste!!! Hyogen, I thought it was nice. You have a very clear voice - were you playing the piano as well? Disregard, I just read about your pianist friend.

I think you might need to articulate the words a tad bit more. My sister just said that, for a moment, she didn't know what you were saying.

I think the voice is pretty good though.

yep, someone else has told me the first part sounds a little mumbled. I'm gonna have to address that--maybe use a different recording for that part

It sounds to me like you sing with a high larynx and a lot through the nose.
The result is a 'heady' sound, that sounds pinched as you ascend.

You have a good voice. Sounds like you just need a lot of training. Find someone who trains opera students. Apply the principles to pop singing and you will have one heck of a voice. (see Celine Dion).

great analysis--thank you! you're right...i'm not using my diaphragm enough. If you listen to that highest note "breathe" you can tell my throat opens up more and gives more of an opera sound, rather than a boyband sound. haha, I tried doing that for one of the recordings of the entire song and my friend didn't like it. I guess I do need voice lessons.. I get sick of hearing the nasaly or throaty voice myself just singing at church :)

funny that you mention Celine Dion--my girlfriend dragged me to her concert about 3 weeks ago. It was amazing--but for the record, I went because her aunt couldn't make it ;)
