my former roommate speaking as Billy Idol "good afternoon everyone..."

our friend playing the guitar - I could've played it, but I was out of practice and I don't usually do too well with singing and playing at the same time.

me as Adam Sandler. This song is from the movie The Wedding Singer. I sang it at one of my best friend's wedding receptions just impromptu and everyone loved it. I sorta have a pretty versatile voice--here I'm trying to sound as much like Adam Sandler as possible, but I have a decent opera/Broadway voice as well--although I can't reach the highest notes that Pavarotti/Bocelli can.. so I'm not a true tenor. alas..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF-R6mbe6wU - *update* i heard Andrea Bocelli didn't used to be able to hit the notes that he can now...he practiced and practiced until his throat even bled? ...something like that. So I'm gonna try to see if I can further extend my range at my advanced age of 26. haha

I really wish I had the ability to sing and play piano or guitar at the same time. I was never disciplined enough to practice the piano nearly enough or even really learn musical theory etc for guitar either...

let me know what you think...

I had a friend in jr. high school was sorta the class nerd...not so much neerd--everyone liked him--he was extremely smart. like he stood out of the class significantly for smarts in math/etc. he was aspiring to become a doctor..........

several years later I hear he's working for Vh1 and MTV behind the scenes as an intern and he's doing all these gigs in New York... now he's in a broadway company that does shows... has been in like Disney and other broadway shows.... just crazy -_- he's living my dream (other than tennis pro :D)

pretty good. to be honest, for some reason i was expecting this to suck.

as far as playing and singing at the same time, it just takes practice, this song was actually my FIRST EVER song that i learned to play and sing at the same time with

thanks man. it was like 3am and we were all a bit buzzed. although I think it could have been better irealize full well I really wouldn't stand a chance to make it in the music industry. way too much talent. plus it takes model looks a lot of times to be successful...or knowing someone big...like jay z or somone...haha.

I forgot to mention I can sing rock and alternative styles...hoarse voice like lifehouse, and styles similar to linkin park and 3 doors down...etc. so lots of variety but no deeep talent in one certain style.. :(

Not bad at all, Hyogen. I've actually done a rendition of this song before except that my voice is a lot higher. It's a fairly simple song so I'd probably be able to pick up a guitar or piano right now and perform it pretty easily. I've never had problems playing an instrument and singing at the same time. Mind you, the more difficult the guitar/piano playing, the more practice I would need before performing.

wow, a lot higher?? I think my voice reaches a full note before the tenor's high C. I can sorta hit it but my voice would start cracking -_-

feel free to post a clip/vid for us to see/hear :D

K, maybe not a LOT higher, but I'm pretty sure I'm higher. ;)

Wow, you made me surf through some old files on my computer. I never realized how many recordings I had made over the years. Seems like a past life. I'm listening to a lot of songs I had written and some of them don't completely suck...........but most suck :). Pretty generic stuff. There's over two gigs worth of media from over 4 years ago.

Sure, I'll post my version, but it's really late right now so it'll have to wait til tomorrow or later.

Interesting to note that I stopped playing music about around the same time I started playing tennis.

Awesome Cover

Great job, Hyo!

Not a big commenter on the boards, obviously, but you guys did great on this one. We used this song in our wedding during the cake cutting ceremony over five years ago. Great memories, indeed.

Have you thought about auditioning for Outspoken? They are a great men's A Cappella group at OSU. You have a nice voice, and it's a fun group to be a part of.

It was pretty good. and that fact that not a single person has said otherwise is actually suprising on a web forum.

I was expecting to read at least one person go with this classic put down.

"Adam Sandler look and sounded gay as heck in that movie, and some how you sounded more homosexual than that"

But it was actually good to the point noone said that so kudos to you hyogen

hyogen

Hall of Fame
yes, i'm asian

i'm surprised myself that no one has said it was bad yet. and I think i coulda done it a little better too...

we can say homosexual on these boards? I thought I had received a warning for using a certain acronym before.. anyways, thanks to all your compliments maybe I'll try to get involved with something musical in the future--but the farthest I could probably go is if I acted homosexual on american idol -_-

i have a friend who is an extremely talented rap artist/songwriter/producer, but sadly he may never make it big like so many other talented artists.

i know what you mean...nevertheless...I can belt out songs like Nessun Dorma, Time to Say Goodbye and hit all of the notes in an opera style booming voice--except for maybe THE higest note...so i could sing them fine if transposed either 1/2 note or full note lower. perhaps I'll try recording it, but perhaps THAT would draw some negative feedback

man, have you ever seen the Paul Potts performance of Nessun Dorma? (from Britain's Got Talent)

absolutely Incredible... just awe inspiring, jaw dropping, tear jerking performance...

Yeah, I'm very much out of practice, but I might get back into it because I used to enjoy it a lot. I struggled with this song more than I thought I would:

Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler:http://download.yousendit.com/81B1A2FA17DDE886

As I said in my previous post, I used to do a lot of recordings. Here's a sample of what I did back in 2004, and then redoing it now. I don't think my voice has changed much, but my range is limited at the moment since I haven't exercised my vocal chords in some time. One of my favorite bands:

Downfall (back in 2004) - Matchbox Twenty:http://download.yousendit.com/29DFD8E36312803E

Downfall (today) - MB20:http://download.yousendit.com/28797D5C77D33664

Pardon the quality, I wanted to keep the file sizes down and plus I use a crappy mic on a very old computer. I'm thinking of redoing all the songs I have in my folder, but that would take a LONG time.

holy crap. I just listened to the first one without looking at the other links...and the first thing that came to mind was either Matchbox 20 or Red Hot Chili Peppers...i'm confused now. Very nice :D I like how you added your own flair to the Grow Old With You song. I tried to sound as much like Adam Sandler as possible-haha. nice guitar playing--even though very simple, it'd take me a while to practice singing and playing even this song.

the quality isn't bad at all. I have an old Sony MiniDisc Recorder with a nice mic that records CD quality audio...but my song was recorded with my friends portable SD card recorder...can't remember what its called...made by Tascam? He bought it at Guitar Hero. Not bad quality at all...but it was like $300 I think. Around the same price as the minidisc recorder a long time ago (discontinued)

(EDIT). WOW. you sir are more talented than I. I just listened to both versions of the Downfall song--I had not heard this song before but now I'm gonna get it. I like the more recent version of it--voice sounds a bit more mature.

I vote for you to create your own thread and get the responses it deserves :)

I might have you beat in opera style/broadway singing--we'll see...suddenly i'm motivated to record Nessun Dorma :D that's my problem I guess--not REALLY good at just one style. same goes with everything else in my life...not REALLY good at any one thing..pretty good or at least average at a lot of things :X

very nice. never heard that one either, so it sounded as if you could have been the original recording artist.

why are these cut short at the end? are you not recording the full length or something? great quality for such a small file size i think.

ERrr...hehe, yes, I've always had this habit of not completing songs. I pick up songs quickly, but I also get bored of them quickly as well. I'm that way with learning piano pieces as well. I'll learn the first page or so of a composition and after getting it, I'll move on to something else. Dunno why I do that.
