Focus Hex Vs. Cyclone!.

Ive been using MSV Focus Hex 1.10 for the last 6 months and found it to play very well around 50 lbs in my PB10.

Im a bit curious about the volkl cyclone (thinnest version), anyone played both and can compare them?. is cyclone stiffer, softer or the same?, how is the spin-potential compared to hex?, what about power?.

Trying to stay away from the stiffer polys because of armtrouble in the past.
I read the review but oppinions seems to be very different about cyclone..

Thanks.

Hi big bang

I posted in one other forum on this. Anyway, I've played with both side by side for a month now, although not the thinnest gauge that you mention. I compared the focus hex 1.23 mm against the cyclone 1.25 mm.

The cyclone is the winner for me in all aspects that I have been looking for. The cyclone is softer, has more power. Spin is more or less about the same.

On a side note the ultimate winner for me is RPM blast, but for a club player, it is too expensive, and tension maintenance is bloody poor!

MSV Hex used to be one of my favourites. But now after numerous tests the Cyclone is right at the top of my list. Incredible string at an equally great price. It maintains playability twice as long as the MSV Hex, and plays even more crisp than Hex which is already a very crisp string that I enjoyed. Spin is as good as Hex if not a bit better. Seem to have a slight edge over Hex regarding power as well without compromising control.

On a side note, RPM Blast has similar characteristics to the Cyclone but it is not as crisp as Cyclone and doesn't provide as much spin potential. Most significantly, it lasts 3 times shorter and is 3 times more expensive than the Cyclone.

You might want to buy a set first, to try it out. I found the Cyclone too soft and muted for my liking. Very easy spin though. I only used it for hybrids, so I can't comment on how it would be for a full set-up. And TW has the set price at around $5.95.
