Frugal drop weight'ers: Electronic machine is a REVELATION.

Just strung a Tad Davis wooden racquet with my low grade trash DW machine, (29 min older Wilson nat gut 16g. took longer as gut with dense pattern shared holes I take little more time to not wear down gut ) . , even though I have a great high end CP electronic machine that has all the bells and whistles, even does self calibration, but went to use my old Serrano automatic DW, that @ TimeToPlaySets would call low grade trash, as that is what he said all DW machines are . With that low grade trash I strung a great deal of racquets back in the 60's and 70's. Most likely more than TTPS would string in a life time., (mostly woodens and T 2000's back then ) , and this machine was the industry standard back then. I occasionally now use it for the wooden racquets I string from time to time, as it brings back memories from years ago. I wonder exactly just what references to facts that TTPS bases his comments on? He never answered that when I asked before. Any answers TTPS ? Anyone taking bets he will not answer? Most likely he probably has no idea what a Serrano machine even is. It is a peddle operated automatic drop weight cp machine 2 point mount glide bar machine. You set the weights on bar scale to desired tension and gripper pulls string to that setting when you take foot off peddle, no bar to keep horizontal, and is still very accurate when I place calibrator on it. Yes I like my electronic machine better, but I would not call my DW machine low grade trash. I would even use that old machine more if I had the upgrade for it that would allow to mount todays larger racquets on it.

What a fantastic racquet and restring! I would play with that racquet in a heartbeat!

Anyone who owns an electric machine yet chooses to use his DW
and then brags about it is bizarre !
Give your electronical machine to someone who will use it !!!

I use it more than you will ever use yours.
So why did you say I don't use it?
Do you have an issue with reading comprehension?
I said I occasionally use that older machine of mine from time to time with older wooden racquets. If you decide to read my post in it's entirety, you would have known that my older Serrano machine doesn't have the updates to string today's larger racquets. You must have poor attention span to read posts or watch instruction videos, as you complain about them when you have no understanding.
You still did not answer my question on what actual facts that you made your worthless comments on dw being low grade trash.
Just the facts please! Reference from experts in the craft would suffice.

When using soft strings, you need to re-ratchet the wheel 3-4 times.
Sometimes, the string gets pinched in the gap. Others have attested to this.

Electronical machine is just a pure joy.

My old dw doesn't have a wheel. It has a linnear gripper. It's a dw machine and you said dw machines are low grade trash. Explain!
Use facts reference if you can. Not just your opinion but real facts. In other words back up your opinion with real facts if that is possible. Anyone can give a lame opinion, but it is the facts that really matter.
Also, why did you make the false comment that I don't use my electronic machine, when if you actually read my post you would have known better. Do you just like to make inaccurate comments and not comment why? Explain!
Also, it is not bizarre to string an old wooden racquet on a machine that was originally designed to string such a racquet, and that machine was the industry standard at that time. Many pro shops during that era used that machine. I'm sure the job on that racquet is just as good as if I used my high end machine.

Linear gripper DW is better than ratchet wheel gripper DW
But ratchet wheel sucks compared to electronical pull.

If you like DW better, good for you.

Again, you mis represent what I said. I did not say I like dw better. I just said I use it time to time. You said dw is low grade trash. You still did not back up your lame opinion.
Look, if you are going to spout off you can at least back up what you said with some facts .
If you cannot, then say that and admit that you were wrong, if that is possible.

He constantly makes crap up. In fact, I think he’s actually a crap making machine - a really good one at that! :-D

Seriously, jim e, nice job on the Davis. It’s always fun to string a vintage woodie from time to time and I suspect particularly so on a vintage machine. In this instance, it also shines a vintage spot light on the faux expertise of one who Tends To Push Sh**.

I wonder why @TimeToPlaySets cannot admit he was wrong. Must just be his personality type I guess.

@MAX PLY , you are correct, it was fun to use that old vintage machine on that old wooden racquet. It is about the only chance I have to use that machine.
It brings back memories from years ago when I used that all the time. Got that machine from an old timer that taught me to string back in 1968. I was 13 years old at the time.

^^^ As for TTPS, I have no idea . . . he/she is just one of those types of people. I just find it disappointing he/she wants to pollute the stringing techniques/stringing machines section--generally a helpful, educational and sometimes, nostalgic section--with the crap he/she pulls elsewhere on the board. I suspect the best cure for those of us active in this section of the board is to simply never respond to him EVER unless he gives some very bad advice to the unwary. He/she adds absolutely nothing to the benefit of anyone interested in strings, stringing machines or stringing techniques and we really shouldn't give him any fuel. Hopefully, one day the mods will have to deal with him/her (and it looks like his/her other new thread had been removed by the mods--check one for the good guys).

As for the older machine, a Seranno, right? We are close to the same age--I was 8 in '68--but I have strung a few racquets on one of those (quite a while ago). The "No Awl" was a marvel at its introduction and good to see that if you take care of a great machine, it's still functional today. I see them for sale occasionally but my study is already full of vintage racquets, balls, presses and a few other items--I'd love to put a Seranno in a corner if I had a corner to spare.

I would have liked to have purchased the updated kit to have it string today's larger racquets.I remember inquiring at TM on getting that about 12 years ago, and they said they stopped making them for a while. The machine is great for woodens, or the T2000's . So only chance I get to use it is when one of those comes around.

YOU are the ones polluting MY thread.
YOU are the ones who can't let it go.
Don't agree? You just can't deal with someone who loves CP and hates DW.

TONS of people agree with me, including every pro shop I've ever seen.

Enjoy your drop weight !! And your Camry. Nothing wrong with a Camry.
This thread is for people who love electronically run machines

Tpps, now you own this thread? I do not think so.
You pollute this entire forum with fallacies.
Did you ever even think why your last thread you started was taken down by the mods.
All I say is unbelievable!

Yeah, he even pulled the 1st part of the Parnell knot so tight he had to open it up with an awl. Most would learn from that, but he continues to do the same for a year, and actually posts that, then blamed it on Yulittle video, and R Parnell even comments that the video was correct, but ttps still will not accept it is his fault. A rare breed he is for sure.

After I had 1 evening with a stringer that taught me how to string, after that I was on my own, back then no internet, no videos, no USRSA, I had to learn on my own over time and many racquets how to resolve certain issues. Here he has a wealth of knowledge to get information , and he criticizes anyone he can't understand, and never is sorry or apologetic. Very sad. It's his whole attitude as well.

This is just the tip of the iceberg...there were good reasons why he has been banned 3 or more times in the past. Yet every time he is allowed to return, his attitude and posting style remains largely unchanged. Most people learn from their mistakes. This tool doesn’t learn from his mistakes because he thinks he is always right. When he is banned, he believes it is he who was wronged.

le!

Fallacies?

Everyone else knows that Electric machine blows away DW.
BLOWS AWAY.
Everyone on the planet knows this...

Absolutely hilarious this is even a debate for you....
I am not debating this any longer. Enjoy your Camry !

Another fallacy.
I do not have a Camry.
I have 2 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
2 Cadillac Allante
And an early 70's Dodge Challenger Rallye.
In your position you should not be debating anyone period.
You have made a fool of yourself here, may I suggest you move on, possibly you would be better going to the discussion boards on the stringforums site, just a suggestion.

Let's see how far you get stringing a racquet when you have no electricity or generator on hand.

BTW ... There are Automatic DW machines that are as good as any electric machine out there ...

... And they don't require electricity to operate. And they don't have any electronics that can be fried.

Using that logic, a bicycle is superior to a automobile.
How's dat commute ?
Really dude? You talking logic and can't see where a bicycle is superior to an auto. Especially after Karma talked about no electricity? You really need me to explain about a gas shortage? OK.

See the car is like an electronic stringing machine. It only works when there is fuel. No fuel no worky. The fuel for a car is gasoline. The fuel for an electronic stringing machine is electricity. Both the bicycle and dw can work without gas or electricity... so they are superior in the cases where there is no fuel for them. Did you notice how Karma wrote: "Let's see how far you get stringing a racquet when you have no electricity or generator on hand."?? and "And they don't require electricity to operate. And they don't have any electronics that can be fried"?? See the mention of no fuel??

Get it?

Dude, really? A bicycle is better than a car?
If the power is out, the last thing you'll be doing is stringing a tennis racket. You're really reaching, and it's sad as ****.
Give it up. You're all just looking utterly stupid now actually trying to claim a $200 machine is better than a $1000-$5000 machine.

Really man this is getting epic. If you are stringing and just starting the crosses and the power goes out. What happens?

Same scenario on a constant pull but its a drop weight and you start the crosses and the power goes out. What happens?

Which one is better at stringing a racquet when the power goes out?

I get it, you can't handle any kind of nuance, but its not a badge of honor...

What’s it like switching from a DW to a crank machine? If anyone has done this, was it worth the money and did it make stringing easier?

I suggest you look at the plethora of threads on this Board that discuss the pros and cons of DW and LO machines. There is plenty of information and plenty of healthy debate on which type of machine is superior and why.

Keep in mind that there are at least two different types of DW machines. Automatic Drop Weight machines are excellent to the point of probably being superior to most LO Crank machines. (I use a LO Crank because I got it for virtually no cost. It was my first machine so I learnt to string on it. If I was stringing more racquets for myself or doing racquets for other people, I would probably go with an Automatic Drop Weight machine.)

Depends on how much you hate dealing with the ratchet wheel and repeated adjustments on soft strings
Also depends if your DW machine gripper pinches and damages the strings.
