Game over for Ancic

Very sad news. He will be missed at least by some of us here. Hate to see the serve and volley players go by the way side.

Ah man, one of my favourites.

He was pretty much retired 18 months ago. He did so little on the tour.
He will be missed- he was a slam contender, and a total S&V gun.

Wow, he's only 26? That's a pretty harsh way to retire. I remember watching him in 2005. Can't believe at all he was only 20 then.

Darn. Will be missed.

He will continue in his law pursuits...he has had a position in Zagreb for some time. Good tennis player, good lawyer no doubt.

I saw him play at Indian Wells last year, just barely 12 months ago. Talked to him after he beat Bobby Reynolds in the first round, he was pretty happy and thought he would be returning to the tour full time. Unfortunately, he sustained a back injury and he just cannot get it healed, which I suppose isn't too surprising for a tall guy.

I just saw the announcement on atp website, and then I noticed this thread here. Very disappointing to hear as I really enjoyed watching him play.

Bad news. I was thinking about him a week or two ago wondering when he was coming back to the tour. I enjoyed watching him.

He had a really good game. I thought he would be in the top 20 forever, and maybe win a slam or two. He shouldn't give up, unless it really is impossible to heal.

He was immensely talented, it is so sad to see him going down. Was my favorite player from 04-06. To think his career was basically destroyed at 21, he just never was able to come back from that mono.

Yes he was, and he had that result when he was only around 21. Imagine how much damage he could have done if he could have competed fully during the last few years...

He was easily going to be a wimbledon winner I felt, his serve and volley game was effective on the slow grass. Even coming back from mono he made the QFs with no problem. His game was great for grass and this was all early in his career. Sigh. He had tons of potential.

He had mono for 2 years?? I still don't understand how mono affects so many tennis players to such a degree but you never hear about it in other sports.

No other sport does what tennis does, usually the other sports have team members to take ropes when needed. In tennis it is 100% on you, you travel around the world all year, and you only had four weeks off.

Not only that you are required to play so so many tournament, then on top of that in order to keep a high ranking you have a lot of pressure to play even more trounaments.

No other sport even comes close to comparing.

Kind of confusing as well. In cycling, it seemed like we all got it, and it knocked you out for a couple months, and for half a season you were weaker. In 2006, I got mono in April, raced poorly through early July. By mid-July I started getting results again, and by mid-August was competing full strength and even won 2 of my last 3 races in late August/early September. Cycling is a lot harder on the central nervous system and immune system than tennis due to the insane amount of hours one has to train.
At the pro level, Basso, Cunego, etc. all had mono and competed solidly within the same season. Pretty much all professional cyclists end up getting mono (aka glandular fever).

This really sucks. I really wanted to see him in Wimbledon at least one more time. He's the kind of guy who could enter as a wild card and wind up in the final, kind of like another certain Croatian.

Yeah I definitely thought he would win a major at some point when he first came on tour. He was the last guy to beat Federer before Federer went on his 5 years winning streak at Wimbledon, and he did it as a teenager. So much potential... Its weird he's only 26, he's been around for so long that I thought he would have been older

Obviously Ancic's was sever enough to actually mention, rather than use as an excuse. Same goes for the back problems.
This thread had NOTHING to do with Fed at all but some how you managed to bring him up just to take potshots. How idiotic..But then again, quite expected from a ****.

No you just brought him up moron, I never said his name at any point. And I really don't feel sorry for you at all.

If you are going to criticize one person about injuries then you should criticize them all. However, biased people like yourself can't see the light because you are too inept.

Yeah right! Everyone knows what you're alluding to but somehow they're supposed to be morons.Funny how you mentioned 'mono' or 'bad back' and conveniently left out 'knee injury'.Everyone knows what you were trying to do,****.
As for what you feel or don't feel about/for me-that of course,is basically irrelevant.

Again IRRELEVANT! This thread had NOTHING whatsoever to do with any other player at all! It was the sad retirement of a talented player who could unfortunately never recover well enough physically to compete well on the tour.Instead you manage to completely ruin it with your postshots at some other player. No need to play innocent. You know yourself, that you were basically trolling, ****!
For all your criticism of the '****s' ,you're no different from a '**** yourself.

both of you shut up this is Mario Ancic's thread.

Mario was a great player one of my favorites. even the past few years with injury whenever he got a month or two under him he got good results. at only 26 it is ashame to see him go as he'd definitely be a top10-15 threat and a big time player at Wimby and USO.

I will never use another on VT3 out of respect.

I'm sorry,couldn't resist
Yeah I'm sad he had to go as well.I liked him.I was afraid Del Po might meet a similar fate but fortunately he's back.I hope whatever Ancic takes up in the future,it goes well for him.I wish him all the best.
