Does anyone know what grip gasquet use on his forehand?
It seems to me that hes using an eastern grip but makes the swing and the finish that players with an western grip make!! i think thats why hes forehand seems so awkard

His backhand has been talked to death on these boards. I think it's legitimate to talk about his forehand, especially since its unusual.

From what I understand, it's an extreme forehand grip.

his backhand is perfect.I just wanted to know about his forehand because if he could develop more that shot he could be no1 in the world right now
so ?

Gasquet uses the grip the is a little past SW but definitely not western. I think it's the grip the roddick uses and Nadal use to use, did Nadal switch to a full semi-western?

I love watching Gasquet play. Notice he NEVER gives up. He keeps coming back over and over again. :)

I'm not really a Gasquet fan but I do like his backhand. His forehand on the otherhand is equal to a top 50 player not top ten. guys like Tursonov have Huge forehands but not the consistency. So it balances.

Pat Cash said today on the commentary against Murray that Gasquet's forehand seemed like a continental grip - and he uses a lot of wrist to get the topspin. Cash explained it's not the grip that most players use nowadays, which is more western.

his forehand sucks. so many into the net!!! watched from the end of the third set to the start of the fifth, never seen a top 10 player with such a SH1TTY FOREHAND!

I think it's an Eastern. It looks very Eastern, but yea, his forehand is really weird looking. He was starting to serve big in that fifth set, seventh game, down 2-4.

His forehand broke down completely the last two sets of the match. Too bad. He had Murray and then let go of the choke-hold.

My friend who is a teaching pro says that Gasquet has a technically weak forehand.

I really don't know, it looks okay to me. But considering that this is the upper echelons of professional tennis, should it be better?

The thing that is different about his forehand is the fact that he barely lays the wrist back at all unlike most players with a modern forehand. I think his power suffers for it. I think he is actually closer to a continental than a eastern. Look how much trouble he has generating superb pace on high balls kicked up to his forehand...that's a problem inherent to the continental. If I were his coach, I'd take him retool the forehand and get him to lay it back more...

ive hit w/ a continental a few times...its impossible to make any forcefully paced shot with it. id rank eastern, semi western to full western grips as strongest to weakest in terms of ability to generate pace.

looks semi-western to me, but he hits the ball relatively flatter than others with that grip. he totally switches the grip when he hits a slice forehand or volley.

it actually looks eastern to me, i remember a slow motion of his forehand when he was playing nadal on clay back in '05 i think it was, it was a very good look and it seemed to be a dead on eastern

Like I said that's what Pat Cash said on the commentary. So I don't know how people can find it looks semiwestern if it's this obvious - looks can be deceiving.

Logically that makes sense - Edberg has one of the best backhands of all time but had a shaky forehand - just like Gasquet does, as we know Edberg had a continental forehand.

Pat Cash reckoned that Sampras at times returned serve with a continetal grip on the deuce court but would change grips when hitting the forehand in rallies, turning the racquet around before hitting the ball after the return of serve on the deuce court - which I saw lots of times and he showed a few examples during the 2000 Wimbledon final, so maybe that's why Sampras' forehand was more sound.

Henman also had a shaky forehand and better backhand and again the argument was that his forehand was more continental in grip. So maybe there is an issue there for Gasquet.

the way he swings so much on top of the ball looks eastern, no wonder he's dropping off. the modern game demands a SW grip, eastern reminds me of the wood racquet days.

It's semi-western, he just does not lay his wrist back as much during the swing and on contact, so his stroke can appear eastern based, but it's semi-western.

I say his grip is similar to Feds (SW)but i agree he does something with his wrist that makes it look different

looks like a continental takeback then he switches to semi-western....
whatever the case it takes a bit of time so he can can get caught out hitting it late etc

These are semi-western grips. If these strokes are part of the same action as your first photo, then he changes his grip at some point in his preparation.

Uh, that looks eastern to me. If it is a semi-western, it's not a very strong semi-western at all. His knuckle and palm appears to be behind the handle of the racquet.

his forehand lacks consistency, i think he has problems hitting it on the rise, i see him back up alot with the forehand, he does however produce incredible winners off that wing when hes hot, when hes cold it could possibly be the worst forehand in pro tennis
