What NTRP rating? Do they recruit from other states or countries? Thanks for any help.
Generally, at what play level is a NJCAA Div 1 tennis player?

There are nasty guys throughout the college ranks, but especially at juco's. Juco's used to have some sick players back in the day. Might not be that way now, but they used to get some nasty players.
As for NTRP rating, I wouldn't bother. Some of those in the old days would easily be 6.0.

Also, what is division 1? Is it the biggest or smallest? Thanks.
im playing at a JC this season. i have been very fortunate to get the #6 spot for singles, and have a good partner for dubs (#3). we have some very solid players, and from what i hear other schools will be very good too. a lot of good foreigners (many of whom play a clay court style according to my coach). i will be able to comment with more info in a few weeks. we start our season this tuesday. very excite!
D1 is the biggest.

You're talking about a junior college right? Because I know an NCAA D1 college would have 6.0 players, but I thought a NJCAA team would be a little lower, since enrollment here is only like 4000 students. Guess I underestimated them!! I thought I might have a chance to get on the team, guess not LOL

OK, I just found out that juco = junior college. Thanks for all the answers guys. I'll be watching the local matches. Should be awesome to see some 6.0+ level tennis in person.
I played JC as well last year. Our team took second in Nor*Cal and 6th in California. Our #1 was a SOLID 5.5 and 2-4 were 5.0. My friend is playing D1 this year and their #1 has a negative rating in France which is suppose to be really good! Not exactly how it works, but I'd say top 100 D1 schools, their players are at least 6.0 or better.

There are very few junior college programs that have 6.0+ players. There are are a couple in Texas which heavily recruit foreign players and are ranked usually #1 or #2 in the nation. But that is an exception. I have watched the #3 ranked juco in the nation play last year. I would say none of them were 6.0. The top players were actually probably strong 5.0s/weak 5.5. The bottom half of the team lose to 4.5 rated players in tourneys around here.
For your average juco the players are 4.0-4.5 typically with maybe the #1 guy a 5.0

D1 players are at least a 6.0. The top 10 Division 1 schools are probably like 6.5... especially the number 1 and 2. Many of these players can play pro but they choose not too. Playing the pros is very hard, traveling 10+ months a year, working hard, no free time. So they choose the path of working towards a career. There are college players that just play really good. Sam Querrey almost went to college. But he chose the pros and made a good decision.

I played JC ball in south alabama in 1999-2000 and played against a guy from a JC in north Alabama (Jeff state).
He was there #1 and played Davis Cup for Mexico.
He was waiting on some sort of test score so he could attend UGA.

When I played in college we played 1 Junior College team, Hinds Community College. They were pretty darn good. I remember thinking, lets just waste these guys and go home. Hahaha, wasn't that easy. I think I played a guy from Peru. He was pretty darn good. I would say that 1-4 could have defintely played D1 for a decent school. A few of the played Davis Cup as well.
yeah, from what i hear some JCs are able to get some great foreign players. i doubt too many 6.0 or even 5.5s are around consistently at JC. i would say mostly strong 4.0 to 5.0 players (with some stronger and weaker, depending).

how far north in cali do you guys live? do you guys play at the ojai tourney or anything like that? i think our team will be playing in some tournaments at the end of the year, might play your schools possibly... but don't really know how it works.

Are you playing this year? I think I might have a friend who is playing there this year. I'm not sure if it's that school. And yea, Chabot definitely has some good players. My friend who played there was told he could walk on to Cal's team.
Yeah, every year we go to Ojai. Last year i wasn't good enough to go down there. Only top 4 went. This year i couldn't play because I have to work on transfering to Davis. Depending on how much I improve i might play for them, but it's kinda a long shot. Not sure. Um I live in Walnut creek, which is about 45 min east of San Francisco. Who do you know at Chabot?

For the last 5 years I have been one of the tennis coaches at Chabot. We are going to be tough this year in both men's and women's. On average in Norcal JC the number 1 players in men's are fairly strong 5.0 players, maybe 5.5. Nick Jakosjin is rated 5.5 and he played number 1 for Chabot the last two years and did fairly well.
