Going from multi/poly to full bed poly - tension rec's

after receiving lots of recommendations from pros at my club to try Volkl Cyclone Tour, i'm looking to try it out in my blade 98 (18x20) next week. I currently play with a multi/poly hybrid (multi mains at 54 and poly cross at 50). As many of you have said, the Cyclone Tour is a soft co-poly, so i'm wondering what i should string the full bed at. I'm thinking 54 so far.

Just looking for a good starting point, thanks.

I would go a little lower considering the dense 18x20 stringbed. Start at 52lbs. Good luck.

Note: I use Cyclone tour mains and a Pro's Pro slick poly cross at #50 in a 16x19 stringbed.

Thanks! Yes, 52 does sound better in a dense pattern. How do you like the Cyclone Tour in your mains?

I like Cyclone Tour in the mains with various crosses. It seems to work well with any smooth cross string, especially a poly cross.

Have you ever tried 40's? I don't know why 50-something lbs is the go-to tension range.

Ditto. I used to play in the mid to high 50's. I have found every aspect of playing in the low 40's to be a huge improvement over my old set-up.

Do you want it to feel more like your multi/poly hybrid or like a full poly bed? For it to feel more like your hybrid, you would need to go to the low forties and apply a lot of topspin (I wouldn't recommend Cyclone Tour for this, as it's pretty soft and powerful.) To have a full poly bed feel, keep your 54 lb. poly tension, maybe a couple of pounds lower.

Today I have given my stringer a set of 17g Volkl Cyclone to string in my Babolat Pure Strike 18x20 @ 48lbs. I am hitting with it tomorrow. I will report back!

I've tried cyclone tour at both 50 and 52 in my blade 18x20. Both felt good, with a preference for the higher tension as the launch angle was a little lower

I have finally gotten around to trying Cyclone Tour in a full bed on my Blade 98 18X20 at 52lbs. First impression is it allows a lot of access to spin and provides more than ample power. It is quite a lively stringbed, from what I can tell early on. I may increase tension to 53 or 54 to rein in the power a bit. Otherwise, I am looking forward to some more hitting hours with it.
