good hybrid setup for 18X20 string pattern

Hi everyone,

I have Dunlop 4D 300 Tour and I currently use Technifibre x-one biphase 17G strung at 58. This setup worked well for me since it gives good feel, good power and touch. Only negative parts are that spin is OK not great and it breaks very quickly (especially on Clay). Only other setup they I did try initially was Lux big-banger alu rough 16g mains at 55LB with natural gut at 58lb on crosses. Now that setup almost made me switch to another racquet since it felt too stiff and dead feel.

Now back to my point. I wanted to try other hybrid setups since I head that a lot of people reccomend hybrid for these racquet. What are my choices if I do want to still have a good feel, soft and power and may be added spin and more durability?

Mains - co-poli - needs to be soft, more durable and added spinBlack Venom 16G
Techi Black code 16G
RPM Blast 17G
Lux alu fluoro 17G

Crosses - Multi
Same as what I have - Techni x-one by 17G
NXT tour - 17
Techni NRG2 - 17G
natural Gut (expensive)

thank you again for your comments

I have moved on to other experiments, but i do remember stringing TF Blackcode in the mains and NRG2 in the crosses was a great combination

IMO, that Lux/gut hybrid failed you because of your tension choice more than your string choice. There's no reason to string that combo above 50 and less would be better. I like Fluoro. With gut mains.

My combo would probably be bluegear/ scorpion, although that would be a bit harsh. Oh well, ill let aged me deal with it later

If I need to choose a particular person's recommendation vs what TW recommends, guess whose advice I will follow?

This combo has everything you asked for, except that I can't comment on durability. It had too much power for me, so I cut it out. Very, very comfortable.
Klip Legend Natural Gut 16 @59 (M) / Topspin Cyber Blue 1.25 @56 (X), on a dropweight.

It sounds to me you are someone who would like something of a champion's choice combination. Soft string in the mains (gut or good multi) and copoly in the crosses. You could try using the x-one biphase mains with a soft copoly that has good tension maintenance like a signum pro, genesis, or weiss cannon. I think x biphase/tornado or x biphase/genesis typhoon would look cool. But it may not have great durability since the cross will eat through the main. Use some string savers. Try this at low 50s, maybe 53-55 lbs. But this will most definitely give you the most feel and spin combination without being too stiff, which is exactly what you were looking for.

Now there are just a million combinations you can try with different multis and copolys and tensions.

Too heavier a gauge and too high a tension for a 18x20 IMO. The spacing of the string on the 300T closes up near the sweetspot, so its not surprising that setup feels very boardy. It's also a waste of gut because the Lux dies within a matter of hours.

The key to poly in the 300T is using a thin gauge. I use ProLine II 1.20mm (M) with prestretched Xcel 1.25mm (C) at 50/53 or 51/54, but just choose the thin gauge poly and multi cross that you prefer.
