BTW TennisBalkan , I bet most posters will pick Federer, simply because we live in his time. There have been countless arguments who is the greatest, and many many threads. Some of them worthless though. You might be interested in checking them.

There had been a ton of these greatest player polls and Federer always wins it. The player who wins it is always the top player of the moment. Federer may deserve it and he may not but he always wins these polls in overwhelming fashion. If you had this poll in the year 2000, Sampras would have won in overwhelming fashion.
ok... havent taken a look at this forum for like 10 months and 1st thing i see now: who is the best poll
some people will claim its fed based on their arguments
others will claim its sampras based on another arguments
third ones will claim its laver based on something else
no criteria to prove it...
federer is obviously the most successful player if it means the greatest then yes he is
if you are talking about who played the best tennis its pretty much not comparable
laver played with a wooden racket
so u cannot compare him with fed or sampras
while fed vs sampras debate (about quality of tennis) can never end simply because - theres not much that can certainly prove things
personally id go with sampras on that one (game)
but results show that fed is more successful which probably makes him the g.o.a.t
