He's 0-8 lifetime against Djokovic. He won 4 sets against Djokovic in those matches (Djokovic won 17 sets).

I thought Monfils had turned a corner watching him in Doha till he came up against the machine, Rafa.
The fire in Monfils eyes (that had been newly burning in Doha), flickered. I saw the old guy turn up and I knew that nothing had yet changed.
For instance, in the 2nd set, he hit one of those stoopid, casual shots that I thought he'd abandoned. Just one point only, but they all matter. He ended up getting broken in that service game and what could have been a 6-3 set win turned into a (harder) 7-6 set win. Who knows what would have happened in the 3rd had he kept the intensity going longer in the 2nd set?

Idc if you think Monfils is lazy, the guy was a consistent top 10 player and has loads of talent, one of the most in the ATP. He's a tough opponent for anybody, especially for a 21 year old struggling for confidence and wins.
He trains plenty hard, he's a hard worker. He's tried to succeed and is doing his best, it's not so easy to do. It's mostly due to his game, he has a great serve but everything else is just average. Forehand needs work, movement and ROS could be better ect.

why does he have to play smart? unless he can throw bombs like isner. he has nothing better than monfils.
Harrison may get screwed with draws in other tournaments, but he clearly did not here. Considering that he is unseeded and could have been drawn to face anyone in the draw, he should feel fortunate he got a winnable first round match and did not draw Nadal or Djokovic.
I would put $10,000 down on this not happening to win $1,000. I am not a gambling man, but that would just be ridiculously easy money.
Monfils won the match without too much difficulty, but it was not a blowout. 1 break per set is not a blowout.

not sure if your serious or joking. monfils half tries in matches he can easily win...it will be proven the GOAT wins this title. beating Nadal with ease... watch... sock and harrison are joke of athletes.... Monfils can beat anyone... Including himself,thats the only way he can lose
I was not joking. Monfils beat Harrison and Sock, but the matches were not blowouts. Nadal's win over Monfils is an example of what an actual blowout looks like.
