Has Kimbo Sliced learned anything?

You think he could stay standing against Dan Henderson? A guy with that caliber wrestling and you dont think he would bring Kimbo down like a rag doll?

At LHW he wouldnt have to worry about 50 pounds of belly getting him in the crucifix position and giving him a noogie until the refs stop it.

All those matchups you mentioned would be very fun to watch. Kimbo vs Houston Alexander would be very good I think. Maybe houston is too explosive for Kimbo though.

Maybe Hendos wrestling is too good for kimbo, but his size advantage would help him an awful lot.

I think Kimbo could match up well with Forrest also. Forest is slow which would help Kmbo stay away from the takedown. and Foresst really cant do a ton of damage wiht his fists. Kimbo would have to learn to defens shoots and leg kicks and he could make a fight against forrest closer than most would expect.

Yeah, Houston has a lot more natural hand speed than Kimbo. If Houston was the guy fighting in backyards and shipyards for money, I wonder what it would have looked like? I wonder if he would have demolished people even worse than Kimbo did. I don't really remember Kimbo knocking people out. He would definitely hurt them but I don't recall anybody being put to sleep, and in a few, it seemed like a combination of hurting them a bit and the big fat dude just getting incredibly winded and collapsing from exhaustion. You see killer instinct, a good chin, and some power, but not really hand speed and knockout power. Like James Thompson, I've seen him get laid out a lot. For his size, he must have the worst chin in MMA. But he wasn't in danger of getting knocked out against Kimbo and he took some shots. I guess I'm saying Houston and Kimbo are very similar: brawlers. But Houston seems like a much more explosive athlete. Plus, he's got a lot of swagger. He's going to get right in Kimbo's face (unless they met ahead of time and Kimbo's incredible work ethic, family values, and humility won him over) and in the event of stare down, I think Kimbo would look away first. Could be cool.

With that said, Seth Petruzelli is a traditionally trained karate striker. There are very few guys like him, Machida being the most notable. So who knows? If I became Kimbo's agent and I had a vested interest in convincing people he was a future contender, I guess I wouldn't bring up the Seth fight, but if I was forced to talk about it, I would say Seth knocked on Bob Sapp, he's a trained martial artist and his power is deceptive. And it's true, guys like Silva and Machida, their power is deceptive, they use their whole body, coordinating muscles and breathing and everything to channel all that energy and momentum to their fist if not two knuckles on their hand. That's why those karate dudes can break a stack of 15 concrete slabs whereas a guy who is way bigger and more muscular who appears to be swinging harder can only break 2 or 3. For that matter, it's why pro tennis players can hitter harder serves in warm ups than big strong recreational players swinging as hard as they can.

So maybe Kimbo would do good against Forrest. I don't know. It's going to be an interesting year in MMA.

If the Shogun who won Pride grand prix shows up, it will be a good fight. But I don't see Machida losing. Lyoto is better in every way.

By the way, when asked a few years ago who was the best fighter he ever went up against, Rampage said without even pausing "Shogun."

Thats the problem though. There is pride shogun and a Ufc one. The guy that was in pride was unreal. One of the best fighters i have ever seen. BUt he looked bad against forrest and he gassed hard against Coleman. He beat Liddell pretty good but beating chuck sadly has lost its meaning. I hope he wins as i really dislike Machidas style.

^ I love Machidas style. If somebody told me that a person could somehow successfully implement that kind of karate fighting style into a championship level MMA game, I would have thought they were stupid. The stuff he's doing blows my mind.

I like Shogun, too. When I heard he was coming to UFC it was like Christmas. I was one of the people who thought he was the best LHW in the world. Now, not sure if he's even top 5.

YA i was disapointed with how he came into the ufc. I know he was hurt but to come into two fights that way was just bad. So much expectation from his pride days but he didnt show it. His win over Chuck meant very little to me as Chuck is done. The skill is there but you gotta question the work ethic he has now. I have noticed that with a few of the old Chute Boxe fighters. The aggresivness that made them famous seems to be lacking since they left.

Lyoto just seems too good for anyone right now. But all it takes is one punch to the face. Shogun for whatever reason wasnt ready when he fought Forrest. And it took him a few fights to bounce back. I think hes close to where he was, but Machidas still too good. And I dont think Shogun matches up well with Lyoto. I still think Rampage has the ability to give Lyoto the hardest time but his mind is into being the next Mr.T

I see Machida as the clear favourite for this fight but as a huge Pride fan, I really really really REALLY want to see Shogun take this one. I'm just not sure what kind of shape Shogun is in right now.. with his first 2 fights we saw that the injuries clearly affected his cardio and in the Chuck fight we didn't get to see if he had fixed that problem. I believe I read that Shogun said all of his injuries were 100% now.

Everyone jumped on the Machida bandwagon after he beat Rashad (and a lot after Silva) and casual MMA fans don't know what Shogun is capable of.. so I'd love to see Machida astro-traveling.

RE: Kimbo at 205

At 205, I could see Kimbo having better success than he would at heavyweight, where he'd be considered somewhat small and obviously under-developed as an MMA fighter. The fight with Nelson proves that Kimbo's got no shot at HW if he's put on the mat.

Now 205 would be a different story. Kimbo is just as likely to be taken down, but odds are he'd be around 220+ come fight time and we all know that extra weight in the from of strength and power is a huge factor. Brock obviously is the prime example (265 to 290), but he's a different story because he has a legitimate background as a wrestler.

Anyway, Kimbo at LHW would give him a brawler's chance over someone at HW in my opinion. The size difference could be enough to fend off a wrestler, the BJJ training he's getting now might help him out with at least finding a way off of his back.

Will Kimbo be technically sound enough in time to push for any sort of run? Probably not.

But Dana's a smart guy.

Despite his previous beef with Kimbo and calling him out on his inadequacies as a fighter, Dana knows marketing. He's not going to let one of the biggest draws in MMA today leave because he couldn't manage a win on The Ultimate Fighter. Ratings alone for that episode proves that Kimbo, other than Lesnar, is the biggest draw you'll find that appeals to the general MMA audience here in the U.S.

People have figured out Houston Alexander. He will never be fighting for a belt. At best, he will be a crowd pleasing brawler who can be one of the gate keepers in the LHW division. I like his intensity, though.

Hopefully H Alexander will take Mark Colemans place against Tito.

Hot Sauce: Any good tennis up in BC?
I can't really say, I don't think I'm at your level of play.
He hasn't won a UFC fight since '07. On the other hand, he's also a hip-hop artist and father of 6! :) Definitely good at something.

Hehe, I know. I was just quoting what Joe Rogan said.. I think after he beat Jardine?
