Head Velocity MLT

Best cross for Velocity for snapback and minimum string movement is IMO Multi Feel in the black version.

Yes, I have been using this setup and it does work well. Do you like to string the crosses tighter or looser than the mains? So far I have tried the crosses at about 4lbs looser than the mains.

Yes this is what I do too.

My favorite setup is X-One main with MF black cross, this is a more powerful hybrid than Vel/MF.

It’s less than a equal size poly, like 2-4 pts less depending on the pattern size
awesome info thankyou. Yeah its a 100 inch 16x19 in my case. I know the sw with a velocity/ poly hybrid. So then it would probaly be around 2 pts higher sw if it was a full bed poly.

I use velocity for a few months, since the rainy season at home, which prevents the use of naty FB .... or even in hybrid!

49 years old, I have been through a lot of snowshoe setups, and strings.

in the end, I always come back to my ideal configuration.
100', 280g, 16*19 .

in this logic I came to stop on 3 models of snowshoes, oriented comfort control:
Head Gravity MP lite
Wilson Clash 100L (v1 and v2)
Wilson Ultra 100L (v4)

ultra and gravity are at 61RA (measured) while clash is at 54 RA (measured).

my configuration so far was:
babolat touch 1.30mm or Klip legend 1.30mm at 24kg, and a poly for crosses, like max power, poly megaforce 4G or even poly tour air and kirschbaum evolution, almost always in 1.20mm or 1.25mm when it doesn't exist, at 22kg.

with the rainy season, I use Velocity, in 1.40mm, natural or yellow.

in yellow I use a cross like signum polaris 1.20mm, and in natural either max power 1.20mm or megaforce 1.19mm. at 23/22kg, since velocity is very far from naty!

result: the string lasts about 6 hours, and costs me: 4.92€ for velocity, and 7.5€ for max power, if I take megaforce, the price drops to 4.5€. the price for 12m of course!

which makes a set at 5€. which lasts between 4 and 6 hours, depending on the game I play. of course, the comfort is superior to anything made of poly, and since poly does not generally last more than 10/12h in terms of Tension stability, a good pleasant poly costs more than 12€, therefore, the together velocity/poly is superior anyway.

of course, I generate the spin and the power myself, in no case would I rely on a string to generate spin and power!.

Can anyone give me a sense of how much of a power and comfort boost I could expect if I moved to a full bed of Head Velocity from a full bed of Head Lynx both at 50 pounds please - the racquet is Head Gravity MP 2023?

oh dear

Decided to try a full bed of Velocity (black) in my Prestige Pro and went for a hit last night.. total disaster.

I am an old guy, like many played through my teens hoping to become pro, gave up at 16, picked up tennis again last year at 50 years old.
Played with full beds of poly since I started last year (usually Solinco Confidential). I tend to think about myself as a "just play" guy.. I can switch racket and strings and adapt pretty quickly usually.

Anyway.. last night it was really really bad, I wasn't having a good day in general but I just could not find anything with the Velocity, nothing, no power (so many balls in the net), no spin (I am not a very spinny player but damn.. there's nothing here ). After 45 mins I gave up and picked up the Gravity Pro with Confidential and after a couple of shots I thought.. oh well, at least I can still play tennis.

Will give this another couple of weeks of honest try.. but so far it's a total failure.

Perhaps it is not for you but before you give up try it in the mains with a nice round smooth 17 gauge poly of your choice in stiffness (Cream, Ghostwire, Silerstring, Big Hitter Silver, Poly Tour Fire, 4G Soft, 4G, etc.).

You will get nearly the spin you were getting with Confidential but more comfort.

Kunos, it always help if you provide tension, gauge and racquet when complaining about string. Playing conditions also help otw we are just guessing. My guess is you’re unaware that there a different power segments in multi strings.

Black feels like a different string. I play with natural 17G in a Gravity Pro and quite like it, not as much as gut-poly but better than all other multis, and no arm issues. . black felt very stiff and very low-powered with a low launch angle. had to cut it out. natural is way more powerful and higher launch angle. try natural 17g before you give up on it.

Different power segments? Can you explain, please? Thanks.

Velocity black 1.30, 23kg on a 2021 Auxetic Prestige Pro, hard court, temperature 17C clear sky, wind I would say 8-10kn :p

No idea what you mean for "I am unaware that there are different power segments in multi strings".. which probably means I am unaware of it :)

Multis have at least 2 classifications. Power and Control. Velocity falls into the Control class meaning string it low. 23 Kg is reasonable for tension but for 1.30 black, 20-21 Kg may be more lively. That’s cuz the black stretches like mad when tensioned whereas the natural does not and is livelier or more elastic. By design, the string is control oriented to replicate poly like spin, but softer. If you want to use a more powerful multi, try Sensation, NXT or LiveWire. Spin is harder to produce tho.

So, I decided to stick with the Velocity and see if I could get used to them.

Yesterday everything was MUCH better, confirming that perhaps I just had a bad day last week. I went to the practice expecting the worst, I planned to force myself to play at least 30 mins with the Prestige Pro with Velocity and, if needed, switch to the Gravity Pro with poly after that. I ended up playing the entire session with the Prestige.. good sign.

Power levels were comparable to the Solinco Confidential, very good depth and control in the shots from the back. Really gentle on the arm, felt really good on volleys, I missed every single drop-shot I tried but I guess it's just user error.

The only time I felt a remarkable difference was when I had to attack short/low balls with my forehand, ball flew just a tad longer as the string didn't seem to "grab" and spin the ball as a poly would.. but nothing that cannot mitigated by staying on these strings and getting used to them more. I'll keep them until they break and then decide.

Why a hybrid with two multi? Main-polycross-multi is better. I played main-Tour Bite cross-Velocity.Voltage drops the same,TB-spin well,MLT-power

I like Velocity 17G much better than 16G. I have a tight pattern control stick (18x20) and the 17G is just better, has more spin and keeps the ball in. The 16G sprays a bit. I guess with the tight pattern I don't really need the longevity of the 16G. Both 16G and 17G seem to lock after 20 hours and lose spin dramatically so I need to restring.
