How often do you update your racquets?

I've have two six one 95s. One is a K factor, the other a BLX. I've had the Kfactor about 6 years and the blx about 3 (or whenever they came out).

They both feel great, but it appears my feeble mind is susceptible to Wilson's marketing, because I'm considering purchasing two of the new six.one models. I like the design of the new ones and it kind of bugs me that my two racquets have different paint jobs.

How often do you guys cough up the money for the new versions of your racquets?

roughly every 3 years. I don't however usually switch to updates of my racquet (if they even exist). I demo from a bunch of different racquets and take the one I like best.

When the confidence bubble has popped with a certain racquet model, that can be enough to motivate at least a little test driving of some different gear here and there. Sometimes when I try different racquets, it reminds me just how much I like the ones I already have. I'm a little spoiled though, just because I've accumulated a bit of an armada of different frames. Although I have six Volkl C10's for example, only two of them are the same generation, but one of those is cracked (but still in service). The rest are all a little different.

Since prices for new racquets are rather obscene, at least for me, I've often picked up 2nd hand gear from the classifieds here with the thinking that I'd "buy it to try it". Since I also string my own frames, it's easy for me to sample different setups with different racquets. Spoiled indeed...

If it's all about the paint jobs with your current Six.Ones, I'd say save a little dough and shop around for one or two from those same generations. Hard to believe they're not out there. If you've tried the newest ones and had one or two spectacular outings with them, maybe you should consider the investment, but try them first. No sense in dropping a few hundred clams on more of the same, but with shiny new paint. If you're popping more strings and essentially need more racquets on hand, get a new pair and you'll be set for quite a while.

I've only purchased 2 racquets in the past seven years (with the intention of playing with; I've purchased a PC600 and PS85 for casual hitting), and switch between the two now and again for fun more than anything. I never break racquets, or strings for that matter, so I pretty much only buy a new racquet to spice up my tennis life.

Whenever I feel like it.
Racket's are cheap, so anything on sale is very cheap, for a sport anyways.
Then again, lots of pros are using basically 10 year old rackets, and they still hit OK.
When I feel the need to change, I'll try a new racket from some buds or demo, and usually find my quiver is every bit as good as anything availible.
However, I am much more windsurfer than tennis player, and use 15 year old boards and sails mostly.

According to TT logic, it's whenever a model comes out, or when your favorite player changes racquets and/or paintjobs.

Why do you complain so much about a forum and topic you're so fanatical about?

If you don't enjoy discussing tennis gear and if you truly believe that YOU can play with anything then show some self control and stop posting here and shop at Walmart instead of TW. You'll save yourself money and time by buying off the shelf at Walmart and the aggrevation of discussing topics you despise so much.

Or maybe your daily life is so pathetic you comfort yourself by insulting strangers on an internet forum from the safety of your keyboard...

Or when new guys come around. I noticed a "Kyorgis' specs"-thread imidiatelly after the Nadal match :)

It's fun to try something new, though!

But does anyone know the life-span of a tennis racquet?

I get new frames (whatever version of the APD) about every 2 years when my Babolat package arrives. I haven't felt there is a huge difference between the current version and the previous version, so no complaints yet.

Great post... but you got reprimanded by the TT resident, soapbox caretaker Mr. TimO. How do you feel?

:)

I don't know, kind of hard to give a f*** when someone gets all butthurt over a non-specific, broad, but true statement.

It's not my concern if someone chooses to personalize a general statement, and get sore over it.

Right now I have two of the 2010 six one 95 18x20 and one of the 2014 model, and I like them all a lot. However I will say that the 2014 seems to have a slight bit more pop than the 2010 model, although that may just be in my mind or the fact that the frame is new.

I just restring. Chasing the magical frame is not in my realm of understanding and honeymoon periods end quickly for me.

Started using what I have for cost and comfort (and similarities to what i played in my youth, mid-late 80s). the rest just takes practice.

I stocked up enough microgel radical mps to last my lifetime.. I am sure someday everyone will play with a bobolat though.

Until it causes me back pain. Severe back pain.

I used a Head Ti-Carbon all through juniors and even when I first came back in my late teens.

I've been alternating between the BLX PS90 and Blade 93 while using the 6.0 for training.

For me, having the PS90 and Blade 93 is enough for a while. I have the Wilson Four and Head Youtek Extreme MP as buffers if I feel my back/shoulder need a rest.

I see no point in buying the same racquet with a new paint job.

I'm just trying to save you and Floyd some pain.

Both of you bloviate about how racquets and string don't matter...on a tennis gear forum.

And then you proceed to post about the importance of YOUR tennis gear.

Show some self-control. If you don't enjoy talking about tennis gear then don't discuss tennis gear on a tennis gear forum.

Since you both actually do feel that your own tennis gear is important enough to post about maybe all of this berating and insulting others is just a form of self-hate due to repressed feelings towards your tennis gear. Just like right wing extremists hate gays but are then revealed to be gay themselves, you both LOVE tennis gear and hate yourselves for doing so.

As a result you both take out your self-hate on other forum members as demonstrated by your inability to control yourselves and NOT post to a tennis gear forum.

Perhaps you two should seek help.

If frames don't matter then why not sell the new ones and keep using the old ones?

Or do you simply enjoy trying out new frames like so many other TT members?

You seem confused on where you stand on the issue. Perhaps a break is in order to collect your thoughts...

Two of my IG Prestiges are two years old. Another one is a year old. My two MG Prestiges are probably 4-5 years old, but had been sitting in the closet of one of my hitting partners for 2+ years until roughly 3-4 months ago when I bought them off him. My plan is to buy new sticks when I get my bachelors degree (another two years). I figure my sticks will be beat to hell by then and likely need changing anyway.

I feel as though you take what others say far too personally. Lighten up, homie. Don't let others get you down. If you want to micromanage your tennis game, just do it, there's nothing wrong with that.

Whenever I feel like it or I think I need to upgrade or change something. Of course I don't go crazy buying new racquet every month or two. I started playing again abut 5 years ago and bought 8 racquets so far.

In general, I really enjoy trying new frames frequently but I probably only switch racquets every 2 years or so. FWIW, I have a BLX Six.One 95 and a new one as well. I really like both racquets and have no intention of selling them soon. Also trying the the Six.One 95S as well.

Last time I bought frames was May 2013: 2 Youtek Mids and 2 IG Mids. Along with a repertoire of a BLX Tour 90, 2 ProStaff 6.1 BLX 90s, 1 ProStaff 6.1 BLX 95; the $400 for the Prestige's was enough to inspire some celibacy for a year until I heard about the RF 97 Autograph. I might shoot for just one if I like the demo.

You have a reading comprehension flaw, TimO...

I said that I get NEW Babolat packages when they SEND them to me. I am bound by a contract to use their current products. I give (donate) my "old" rqts to kids / friends since I no longer have use for them.

It has nothing to do with trying out "new" frames. Get it? Got it? Good!!

Del Potro has been using the same K factor racquet for more than 3 years(I am no sure how long exactly) and he insists on sticking with them. I recall he had only 3 remaining, with paint chips and all..
