Hybrid Gauges

I plan on getting MSV Focus Hex in 1.10mm and Gosen Micro 17.

Would there be any problems at all in the gauges such as one string cutting through the other?

I haven't noticed much, if any, difference in the durability of MSV 1.10 Hex mains and Gosen Micro 17 or Gosen Micro 18 crosses. Conventional wisdom is that the Gosen Micro 18 is not going to last as long, but in actual play I haven't noticed a big difference in one over the other. I still get around 10-12 hours out of the hybrid.

But I use a dense string pattern racquet (18x19), don't play with extreme top spin, and none of my racquets are leaded up to high swing weights. So take it with a grain of salt.

Also, MSV Hex feels and seems to play (at least for me) much better at lower tensions - which is also what the manufacturer recommends. I string a full bed around 52lbs and a hybrid at 52/54lbs. So if you try it higher and don't like the feel, you may want to drop a few pounds before you give up on it.

I've never been a really big string breaker so durability from hitting isn't much of an issue. I was just making sure that the gauge choice wouldn't cut down the life dramatically.

I have Gosen 17 and MSV Hex 17 as a hybrid with poly mains and syn crosses. I've played over 8-10 hours and it is absolutely hitting wonderfully. I haven't reached the point of leading my racket so we aren't too different on that point.

I've just been looking for strings that come in reels now that I own a stringing machine. If I could get Gosen 18 I would but all I can find is Gosen 17.

As far as the poly goes, I'm still stuck between MSV Hex and Pro Supex Blue Gear. I've had experience with Hex so I'm leaning towards the MSV, plus it's cheaper.

I'm using 1.18 Black Code mains and 1.30 Multifeel cross and the black code in ripping through ridiculously fast.

Ah I was trying to find that thread... Thanks

I think I will string with a 1.10mm MSV then with Gosen 17. I think it'll work out just fine.

Jay Cee recommends using thinner cross poly strings in Nat gut - poly hybrids, where the poly is in the crosses.

It will affect durability and you just have to see is you can live with that in the long run.....maybe you won't experience the shorter durablity, so go for it and try a thinner cross poly.

I personally feel that I won't go thinner than 1.20, maybe 1.18 smooth poly in the crosses. I currently use a Luxilon Alu POwer, which officially is 1.25, but measured before strung really is 1.23.

This is OK thin for me and gives me good durablity - the Lux dies after 4-5 hours anyway.

I keep on playing with the hybrid for 8 hours before I cut it out, if I don't break it before that.
