I feel like Djokovic is dropping his form on purpose against Federer

No. I think fed game is suited well against Novak. Just a few points here and there at major semis and finals in 2010, 2011 us open 2015 us open finals where he was like 3 for 17 on break points

2014 Wimbledon finals and obviously 2019 Wimbledon finals.

I think a healthy fed probably could have taken Match to 5 sets. But Novak was the favorite. He wins anyways.

They just know each other’s games so well. That’s why most of the matches are entertaining and close usually. So Novak wasn’t dropping form on purpose.

Maybe he was nervous starting as so heavy a favourite, maybe he was unsure of what Federer's level would be so was tentative starting out, maybe he just wasn't playing very well like was the case for large stretches of their Wimbledon match.

It's not easy for these guys to play each other (most of the time) with all of the hype and the expectation and everything that is on the line not just in the single match but in the larger historical sense. They are in fact human too, they can play badly sweating under such a spotlight without... Dropping form on purpose in a grand slam semi final:rolleyes:

Federer was actually the one who when the match started I thought "Did this guy play those Millman and Sandgren matches on purpose to lull Novak into a false sense of security?" :-D Dude literally served more aces in the first set than he did in either of his last two rounds(a four setter and a five setter)

This was a schooling. A straight set 2hr destruction if one of the greatest of all time at his 2nd pet slam.

As a Rafa fan its great that Rafa can go to roland garros with the record in sight but its also trajic to see one of the greats get routined like that today.

Not as routines as Rafa was in the final last year, still it was another master class from Novak against a sub par Fed.

I know, I know, it makes no sense. Maybe he just likes giving Fed hope, and then beating him.

Or maybe he hates that he has to destroy an old man viewed as the GOAT by many.
This is a garbage post man. I’d expect this from one of the trashier Fed fans

Thing is AO is not a pet slam for Nadal. Its his worse. He then won 2 Majors at his pet slams.

Federer has now lost at his best Majors to Djokovic last two times. That is a crucial difference.

No positives at all for Federer. This was a disaster of a tournament.

Djokovic said on court that he was paying too much attention to Fed's injury. But Djokovic historically raises his level more often than not when he's playing from behind.

Let’s see what Nadal is doing in 2025 at Roland Garros, before you start spouting nonsense from your keyboard.

Or maybe you hate Fed because he’s still the GOAT and your guy isn’t? Freud wouldn’t have to work hard with your psyche when you use the word “destroy” to describe a 7-6, 6-4, 6-2 score line. Only 2 other 38 year olds in the Open era have even made a slam semi, so “destroying” should be the norm at that age.

I hate nobody. I just post random **** when I'm bored.

Or maybe he is old now and IT HAPPENS.
But yeah they are all so immortal on ttw so I understand.

Yeah people forget while Djokovic is for sure closer to his prime than Federer, he isn't fully in his prime either. Probably not by a long shot. The top 3 are all old, hence the reason the variation incarnations of next or lost generations are dumped on for not doing more.

7-6 6-4 6-3 over an injured opponent is hardly a schooling.

99% of us Fed fans are really happy that he made a hard court semi at his age; especially considering how horrendous his form was at times. He was an escape artist against Millman and Sandgren, which means that the odds were clearly astronomically against him to go the distance. We knew that. That's fine. This tourney will be a happy memory for me; just like Connors in 1991 was at the USO.

Moving forward, I'd like to see Fed use a 2015 Edberg approach to shorten the matches. Federer clearly cannot handle a series of long matches at hard court slams. His body constantly breaks down. Of course Djoker was going to beat Fed here. At hard court slams, Fed has lost to Dimitrov, Tsistipas, Millman, and a broken-down Delpo(this guy has missed so much time due to multiple surgeries). If those guys with a total of 1 slam title can beat Fed, then the AO GOAT was clearly going to beat Fed. The betting odds were 7/1 against Fed beating Djoker. It should have been 20/1. 7/1 underdog seems reasonable for a healthy Fed against Djoker at this event.

There's nothing wrong with hoping for a miracle. This loss doesn't sting one bit. I gave Fed no chance, given his condition entering the match. But that condition is the norm for Federer these days on hard courts. So it's no excuse. It's like saying Federer will breathe air. It goes with the territory. I'm happy that the scoreline wasn't embarrassing.

Overall, I'll take this result. A slam semi is a great result at this stage of Fed's career. Federer has now made 15 semis in the last 17 AO tourneys. That's incredible. I only hope that Fed can enter one more hard court slam semi before he retires.

Congrats to Fed for a job well done. It was a great tourney and it was highly entertaining. I'll continue to follow Fed until his last match. I still love his style of play, even when he's a shell of his best years.

Djoko lost the last match and nearly lost in Wimbledon hence started very nervous. He is following Federer's shots initially then find out he couldn't move well.

I would like a healthy Federer play against him next time. It will be interesting match. The past few encounters have been very close. Djokovic is very close to losing to his tactics of slicing and changing direction.
